This place is busier than I ever thought a place could be. Fortunately I am surrounded by the most professional and capable people I've ever been around. Focused, dedicated, intense, and committed people. I don't watch the news anymore because it doesn't matter! I/we are here to do a job and will be until someone tells us otherwise. I/we are working 16 hours a day on uneventful days, and 30 hours on the busy....good....days! It's nice when I can unwind on the forums for a while prior to hitting the hay. No drama....just like minded folks with a mission in mind!
Glad to hear. No matter what the job at hand, its always better when you've got good folks to work with.
Wishing you "God's Speed" Rick! Been there and done that only a long time ago....1968 - 1969! Thought I share two of my favorite pictures with you.... (By the way... I was in the 601st Photo Flight ~ combat photography Viet Nam) This first one is our squadron.. see our insignia "A Pregnant RAT" LOL (I standing, 2nd from the top left ~ Geesh, I was cute back then) Now this is my absolute favorite and what we thought about "Charlie"!!! (Hope you get a kick outta this and it cheers YOU up)
Well, my first of two deployments is pretty much done. I'm just waiting to get on the plane for the long journey back home. But, Ambien makes the journey seem to fly by!! I'll be drinking beer with Momo before you know it....and see my wife and daughter!! LOL As much as being away blows, technology is making time away much more palatable. I got to watch my daughter open up presents Christmas morning because of a webcam and Skype. I'm looking forward to being back for a month!! I'll be back for about a month and then gone for seven!
Have a safe trip home just keep pleasant thoughts of you and momo sitting by the pool sipping cocktails and sharing intiment conversations, that should pass the time by quickly!!! Love ya man were all proud of you..
have a safe trip rick and i look forward to hearing the exploits of you and momo sitting on...... oops..... i meant with each other sipping drinks while sitting in the sand....lol
That is just awesome, Rick. Hopefully we can all get together and have a few drinks when you get back. Give me a call (619) 694-8647. I don't think I have ever given you my number. I am pretty sure Ryan and Jason are the only ones who had it. Hope to hear from you soon, buddy !
Thanks folks!! I just made it to Virginia where I'll be doing some out processing for hopefully just a day and then back to Cali. The flight home was humbling!! We escorted a flag draped coffin with the remains of a U.S. service member inside. I get chills writing this. I was humbled, honored, and reminded of just how real things. RIP
Thanks Hal. I got back home to Chula Vista last night. And yes, I'll be stateside...hopefully here at home....for the next 6 or so weeks.
Well it's been 5 weeks already. Boy how the time fly's!! I'm heading out the door again Friday for 7 months to close down Iraq. With everything drawing down over there and us being pretty much the only ones still kicking in doors it has been busy to say the least. The guys I'm relieving have been out the door killing and capturing bad guys on at least 45 occasions since the new year. That is a high op tempo my friends!! And with the elections coming up I'm sure it won't slow down anytime real soon. The truth of the matter is that we are doing more in Iraq right now than we are in Afghanistan. I think both places will be fairly tame here within the next year. Which reminds me. I'll be getting back later this year and heading back out the door for 6 months this time next year to Afghanistan. See you guys on the flip side!! - Rick
That was a quick five weeks! Take care of yourself Rick and we'll be looking forward to your safe return. And kudos to your missus for holding down the fort while you're away so long. Marc's been out of town all of two and a half days, leaving me alone with the Empress and I am whooped! Don't know how I'd do it for months at a stretch!!
Jeesus Rick, watch your ass. Don't do anything Marcus wouldn't do... wait a minute... don't do anything Marcus would do. And stay away from the rental cars this time. :usflag:
