Just have a couple small straight slot screwdrivers on hand. You'll see what I mean when you get the canister out.

If your doing it on the ground or in your driveway its much easier to work on the pump with the gas tank dropped completely. That way you can drag it out from underneath the car and work on it in an open environment on the ground.

My preference is dropping the tank completely. As seen here:

Yeah I've done a few so any questions feel free to get a hold of me.

    Lol!

Cheryl's car, my car, and our friend Ozzy's (ozzy1) car that's in the carport. That's back in the day when everyone would come to my house to get work done on their cars. Good ol' times surely missed.

I should be on around that time. Its your first time so I say drop the tank that way you can easily work with everything. Takes me about 30-40 min to install a fuel pump on these cars from the ground but I've done a few. It will probably take you longer as its your first time. The hardest part is taking the canister apart to get to the fuel pump.

Be sure to have someone there helping you. Its better/safer for (2) people to drop the tank and put it back up. Also helping prying the canister open to get to the pump. Last one I did was on my wife's SRT-4. She was my spotter, I dropped the tank by myself, she helped me pry the canister apart and held the gas tank on one end putting it back while I tighten a strap. So I suggest you do this with another individual helping you.

Dropping the tank isn't needed. Even if you only drop one side, the canister comes out and you work on it where ever you want....

it may not be absolutely needed, but much easier than being stuck on your back.

You have to be on your back to drop the thing anyways...so why not just drop half, take out the canister (which is cake) and then you can work wherever you want.

IMHO, it's easier to just leave the tank in there. You have to disconnect all the lines and wires regardless.....So instead of taking off both straps to drop the tank, you undo one strap and unscrew the canister.
