You can do the painters tape thing that many do for cross country trips.

If not, be sure to have a VERY good amount of wax on the nose.

I really wouldn't put a regular bra on the car. first of all
it's polyester... that's what put all those spiderwebs in your paint in the first place. Second, it's going to move around a bit at speed. Any dust that gets under the edges (inevitable) is going to get pounded into the paint or sanded into it with... polyester. It will prevent the rock chips. Might not be so bad in your case 'cause you got a fine new porter cable right? You could buff the bra damage right out

have done that ron..... as soon as you hit wet weather, it will peel right off at speed!! trust me, ask anyone behind me going to the shin dig what happened after it started raining!!! hahahaha

dave - i was looking into a bra, but running painters tape at the edges of the bra to keep things from chaffing the paint. i just can not find one that is made for the srt. i asked ted as moparsupercenter and they do not have one either!!!

I don't think taping the edges would work. The whole idea is that the adhesive is not that strong. Unless a bra is very stiff/thick and perfectly fitted it's going to lift/pull away from the car in spots due to the wind going over it. It may not be right at the edges but it's going to pull the edges. Also to get those things really tight usually involved some sort of hook whatever that goes over/on the wheel well lip, bumper edges, hood edges, etc. I'd be a little nervous about the pressure points if you got it tight enough to really keep it from moving at all. If my manage to find a bra that fits I'd just go with that and porter cable when you get home.

By the way, we haven't heard how that's working out. All the spider webs gone now?

I have done the painter's tape a few times including to and from Toronto (from Phoenix). Like you said, Legmaker, that stuff hates being wet. On my long trips I was in some crazy rain storms and it did peel off a bit but I ended the trip with nearly all of it still on. Every gas stop, I would press the looses edges back down and if they did not stick at all I would trim them back a bit and reapply. It definitely looked a bit ragged by the end of the trip, but I am positive it worked. Also, I learned to start at the edge furthest away from the front so I could overlap in a manner that the leading edge of the tape does not catch air. It does take me a while to tape up my car though.

Also, Hemiwagn, from Toronto, gave me a can of Dupli-Color "Shield" which is a temporary spray-on bra protection. He used it on a trip from Toronto SF 2007 and back. He said that it worked pretty well. Only water with soap will remove it. It did take a bit of masking before applying it, in order to make the removal task a bit easier.

I will probably use the tape to the SF and the spray-on for the return home.

They don't have a bra for the Charger SRT8? That's dumb. For a cross country trip, I don't think I would trust anything else. I would suggest combining techniques then like a nice glossy wax or gel and the bra over top...or you could just say screw it and have a reason to paint the car silver lol.
