    heh

Just to throw some fuel on the fire, is not one of our founding principles well stated in the quote

While I abhor the parental failure to provide for their daughter ... it IS a matter of personal freedom to maintain ones own beliefs, whether or not we agree, whether or not it's life threatening. It's discriminatory, egotistical, tyranny for us to take that away from them just because we disagree. :censored:

Disclaimer: I don't agree with what they did. Religion is an instrument of evil.

PS: Whoever earlier said that this could only happen because of liberals, laugh. The irony. Liberals are the bleeding hearts who are demanding that we take away the rights of these parents to maintain their beliefs and let their child die. If the liberals had their way, these guys would be in prison. Conservatives are the typical bible thumping demagogues calling for the liburalz to respek their religion and allow them their personal freedoms. Liburalz are the ones using the government to infringe on the social rights of communities and individuals.

I'm not asking for the government to get involved, I'm just disgusted that this still happens. I blame the parents and feel bad for any other children they may have.

    im not an expert here...

but im pretty sure killing people isnt protected under the freedom of religion...

while they didnt "kill" her...they made a conscious choice to not give her the medical help she required when they knew she needed it (since she told people there was something wrong)...

like i said...im not an expert...but (especially since they dont have a religion to speak of)...they should be held accountable

how is that any different than me not feeding my kids...and being like...no its ok...i was praying for them to be nourished by god.... its not...at least i dont see it to be

Found this doing a little searching, apparently even the ACLU thinks there are lines that shouldn't be crossed:

Found it in this article, may be biased since its a child's rights advocacy group, but an informative read. I had no idea that so many states had religious exemption laws in place.

my view is...if its someone old enough to make an informed decision saying they want to pray and have faith that whatever god they believe in will heal them or whatever...fine...thats freedom of religion

when you have a situation like this...where the person in question had no say in the matter...and wasnt really old enough to even understand whats going on...this is child neglect and whatever the legal definition is for murder when you dont directly kill them

Jury's deliberating on the father in this case now. I really really hope he develops diabetes or a similar treatable but deadly disease and doctors refuse to treat him, because of his religion. Then maybe he can experience the hell he put his own child through. Renal failure, heart failure, systemic infections, brain death, all of it slow but certain. All because "Jesus never went to a doctor". Agh!!

Yes, for me its personal, but its so fucking stupid. Its child abuse in the worst way. The asshole lets his daughter die without something as simple as insulin and water, but he's okay with child protective services treating his surviving children in his absence. Its completely unfair that this crap can happen.
