After almost 1000 miles with new, different pads, I can keep my wheels clean...they really look good when they are not all black and dirty. Switched pads to Posi Quiet pads all around. Not bad at $100 for both sets. Sure, they don't have the same feel as the stock ones, but I'm not road racing either. When they were changed, I was surprised at the amount of rotor wear at 14,000 miles.
Wait about a month. Dust will noticeably reduce even more than what it is now. Also, what I noticed when they were new is that the first couple of brake applications starting out cold in the morning were almost non-existant. 1 or 2 stops and then they were fine. That goes away too in a month or so.
Haven't noticed much difference when first used cold, BUT when we have a good rain, they do not like being wet.
Mine squeaked like a new born chick when I first put them on, did a bedding procedure...still squeaked a little, bedded them again...never a peep again, and no more dust to clean every other day. One of my favorite mods. And yea, they don't perform like stock, but it's a trade off worth every particle of brake dust I don't have to clean. Once you get used to a longer stopping distance (and it isn't much) you never know the difference.
My dealer replaced all the pads on my 06 SRT that had 7200 miles on it for FREE, however, the time frame was WAY over the limit. I was told that some early SRT's had bad Brembo pads so they changed them. Never had a squeal before, but I sure do NOW! Took it back, they sprayed something called brake squeal on them, stopped squealing for a couple of days; NOW squeals again, not as bad though. AND... I noticed sometihing "silver in color" all over the brembos... guess that musta been their so called "brake squeal lube"??? Called another dealer on this past Monday and they told me they check with Chrysler for me and let me know what's up.... mentioned about the TSB for the rotors... and they NEVER called back....at least NOT YET!
i have the posi quiets as well (thanks dookie) and i have loved them since day one!!! stopping power is not quite the same, but the fact my wheels stay clean longer than 1 mile is worth it for me!! lol
The problem with the initial Brembo system, pads and rotors (2006), was that brake dust was not being evacuated properly form the leading pad edge. The result was grooved rotors. Very visible and often within a few thousand miles. The TSB was to replace the rotors with the slotted rotors (on a per axle basis, although most dealers would do all 4 if they did any). The TSB did allow for pad replacement if the pads showed excessive wear. The replacement pads were the same as the original -- the slotted rotors were the fix for the dust evacuation from the leading edge and not a differently designed pad. Since then I think they've changed the OEM pads twice maybe (for some other reasons I don't know of). I think the original pads were the most effective. None of the above had anything to do with squeal. Mostly it was the Jeep guys who had squeal complaints.
