Apparently this was released June 17th. The part# specified to the dealer for the service is CBHZL080AA (haven't looked it up yet but I'm guessing this is an assembly/kit just for the recall service?). 1 year ago (11 months) I had my fans replaced. The low speed had quit a couple of months before and then the high speed made some racket for a short time and quit. Tech tested both motors as dead and also fouind cracks in both fan blades -- and I guess some rubbing. Part #s for that replacement were: (1) 5170746-AA MOTOR RAD 8034280 [XDL], Right (1) 5137714-AA MOTOR RAD 8034280 [NMB,NMC] Left (2) 5137713-AA FAN COOLI 7002002 (blades) Ok... found the dealer memo. Says this: So... they're going to have to find out if I got the fixed fan blades last year. If I already got the new ones then I can file a case to get my $100 deductible back for that warranty repair. Lady at Chrysler customer service said she didn't think that would be a problem.
Well, now's your chance. It's a recall, so no charge to get your fan blades replaced. Both mine had cracks in them. Tha't possibly what caused the motors to fail. Blade cracks, rubs or jams against shroud, fan motor burns up... They should be mailing the notice to the addresses they have for the effected VINs.
Dave...so can I drive in and say "cooling fans?" lol You get the idea...is this a true recall or a lesser TSB or just a bulletin when people's car come in for a service call for a cooling issue?
My dealer replaced both fan blades & motors last week on the 2007 I recently purchased at no cost to me....and before someone says the service mgr is a friend this is another dealership....the dealer I bought my other cars/truck from was axed by the new Chrysler company after the bankruptcy.......this was my 2nd visit to this dealer and I am liking them..
iiiiiinteresting. ill need to schedule a day off so i can stand next to the guy who does this cause i just dont trust them to touch my car anymore. Last time I was there I wouldnt even let them drive it into the service bay....i did lol...and he was just replacing a TPMS sensor haha
Steve, you could probably just go in with a copy of the Customer Satisfaction Notification L08, (If your car is on the list, lower left hand side, check here: https://www.chrysler.com//hostb/crossbrand/owners/en/ ) and get the parts and perform the repair yourself. Once you enter your VIN, a pop up will come up with a link to a PDF of the CSN to print it. I had this issue back in 07 & 08, bought the fans and motors then and replaced myself. I mailed a copy of my receipt from 08, couldn't find the one from 07. On the CSN it states that if you have already paid to have it repaired, send your original receipt or other adequate proof of payment to Chrysler Customer Assistance P.O. Box 21-8007 Auburn Hills, MI. 48321-8007 Attn: Reimbursement Once received, it will be sent to you within 60 days.
Yeah I ran it through the one at Dodge.com....but it said i have no outstanding recalls or tsb's. That could be that it wasnt updated or my car isnt on the list i suppose.
I don't have the print out in front of me but it's like a recall in that it's free. But it doesn't say "recall" on it. It says "customer satisfaction ..." on it. So I don't know if it's an official recall or not. As long as Chrysler has your VIN associated with your name/address you should be getting a notice mailed to you. That would be like being on the "sold to" list if you bought your car new from a dealer. 2006 - 2008 cars with the super/extreme duty cooling option. They're doing it by VIN. maybe they put the wimpy cooling option on your car since it's cold there all the time. My SA just left a message that my car is ready. Said they had to replace the fans because it was a different part number than they used to replace them last year... I'm wondering if they just compared the part number for the recall *package* with the part numbers for the *fans* they replace last year. Note: the recall is for the fan "blades" and not the fan motors.
Sonofa... mine's on the list. Again, when I can afford to get my regular service appointment done. Probably part of my second paycheck, assuming I get a first paycheck.
Picked up the car. I got 36,600 on the clock but my extended service contract expires 7/15 (I'm going to have to dig a pit in the driveway). I had them call the CSC to see if they could do the 60K service instead. Ding! Got new serpentine belt, new antifreeze and new A/C cabin filter along with the oil change He said they didn't replace the plugs. Figured it must not be in the 60K service. have to go check my book. [edit] It's 100K. I suppose they're still fine at 36K. ...he said they replaced the fans anyway for the recall. ...'cause the part no. was different -- well duh, the part number on the recall was for the recall package which undoubtably included the same fan part along with the attachment nut. He also said that was the only way to clear the recall alert off my file and they have to send in the old part to do that.
Called today after getting the notice in the mail with my VIN on Tuesday. SA said they will call me and schedule an appointment after they order the parts. No issues with the fans but I will admit that I was always nervous after reading a few posts on the failure of the fans. Bookmarked a page on my PC for the fan purchase just in case but looks like Dodge is taking care of us on this one...
Yup, got my recall letter too on my 06 Mag SRT, called the dealer; they said parts are on back order. Mine is right at 11,000 miles.
