I just received the dreaded call no one wants. One of my best friends, groomsmen, and teammate, was killed in a training accident (SEAL Delivery Vehicle, SDV) up in Washington state late last night. I won't say his name yet because no official announcement has been made. I worked with his wife back in 1995-1997 at a clinic here in San Diego. He was a Force Recon Marine while I was going through BUD/S (SEAL training). He decided to become a SEAL as well. We did two platoons together, which means we spent almost everyday together for over four years. We fought together in Afghanistan, and drank together A LOT!! We were groomsmen in each others weddings. This guy was a freaking stud. You will be missed brother!!! RIP
Sorry to hear this Rick... Our thoughts and prayers go out to you buddy. I do not like news like this, but know that our HERO is now watching over us from a better place above. You have my number if you need an ear. Big HUG to you brotha.
Damn, Rick, that sucks to hear. I'm sorry, man.... If your in town when I get down there for the boat, we'll go have a few beers in remembrance.
Sounds like a plan. I just got off the phone with a few buddies and we are going to celebrate his life like he wanted us to, by getting shit faced up at Danny's Bar and Grill in Coronado! When we were in Afghanistan we took an American flag out with us on an operation with a sign that said "Danny's or bust" and took a picture with us all in the photo. We gave the flag and picture to the bar. They created an awesome wooden display with the flag, picture, trident (SEAL emblem) and have it hanging in the bar.
That sounds like an excellent idea! Sir, I salute you and all our soldiers who protect (and have previously protected) this wonderful country. :worthy: Keith
Damn Rick, been there bro. I lost my best friend a while back. It sucks, but it sounds like you have a solid plan. I know you guys are some tough SOBs but be careful man.
Rick I am so sorry to hear of this I received word today from Matt Mckenzie that while he has been home on leave one of his good friends he was to be in his wedding was killed in action. I love and respect each and everyone of you and it's sad to hear of a loss of any of you in the military. Stay strong man.
Prayers going out to him and his family... And of course to you too, Rick. Very sorry to hear of the loss...
Thanks everybody!!! No time to mourn....time to celebrate his life!!! The irony of me saying that reminds me of a story back in 2004. We, including my buddy Eric, were in Okinawa and we heard that our last platoon chief had died in Iraq. We all LOVED this guy tremendously. We spent the next 12 hours getting completely shit faced...crying like bitches, pulling up old pictures on the computer and reminiscing. WELL, the next day we find out the name was mixed up and it wasn't him. We didn't know how to feel...LOL. I talked to my old platoon chief a couple months later and he just kinda chuckled and said "I never knew you fuckers even cared!". I still have pictures of Eric laying in a puddle of puke passed out in front of our hotel rooms from that night! LOL
Thanks Ralph. Hopefully I'll get to catch up with you tomorrow at Jason's. You still going and if so what time?
