The Eastlake Proving Grounds & Road Course, in association with and promotion by, The Eastlake Queertette proudly presents:

    Evo vs. SRT8

Rick, my neighbor John (owns an 2007 Evo), John's brother and I went on a little test run of sorts this afternoon...

The object: To test the difference, if any, in road-coursing abilities of the Evo (non-MR) and an SRT8 Charger equipped with KW coilovers, Hotchkis Sways and Strut Tower Brace.

Both Rich and John had passengers at varying times of the challenge and both drove eachother's vehicles. Without the use of sophisticated measuring equipment, this is as close to a real test as you're gonna get.

I followed along in my stock suspension SRT8, for a baseline comparison... of which, there is none. Stock SRT8s while decent handlers, are NO match for either of the above vehicles on the twisties.

    Observations (in summary):

On a roadcourse, the two vehicles were pretty much equal, with a noticeable difference in body roll in the Evo (Rick's SRT8 had less body roll). The SRT8 was up the Evo's arse throughout the challenge and pulled noticeably in the straights.

John, the Evo driver, following this ordeal made a committment to upgrade his Evo with better shocks/coilovers.

Rick's SRT8, so equipped, handled as well as the AWD Evo but was more powerful when WOT.

The Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's played a part in the performance as well. They are nothing short of amazing tires. The entire time when I was up his ass I heard his tires all the time. The only time I heard the V's at all was when entering a turn at 130mph. When John drove my car he was amazed. He thought it wasn't going to be contest before we set out on this little journey...he was wrong!

O c'mon... Jason was driving the chase car. He couldn't manage to push the button on a video cam. He's got a baby. You know he has to have a video cam.

Knowing what I know now. I think the V's are even more amazing. I don't think I would have been up his ass quite so much in the Invo's.
