I was messing around with my EVIC today and made a few changes in parts that I didn't know I could make changes in. If anybody if familiar with the EVIC settings can you please tell me what changing the "TEMP AVG" does, what it means and where it ideally should be.

Also, what does changing the compass variance do, what even is compass varience and TC and Thld: what do they mean, what do they do, what should they be at?
Thanks guys/gals! Also, please keep in mind the engine was off during these pics thats why there are alot of 0's on it.

Oh man Mark, you are in trouble now.......

Forget your warranty man... :surprise:

haha gotcha... I was kidding. I too have done that and so far nothing has happened.

haha. well i got the compass setting figured out thanks to mr. incredible over on lxf and temp avg has something to do with controlling engine temps while cruising. tc and thld im guessing has something to do with automatic headlights?
btw. my warranty went out the window quite a while ago my friend!

Temp Avg is what's displayed on your normal EVIC display (outside temp). It's a smoothed number derived from Temp Raw which changes quickly. Don't want your temp display changing when you stop at a red light for a bit. No idea why it's changeable in the diag displays (maybe for checking your EVIC temp display in normal mode) but it should change as soon as you start the car?

Compass variance is probably the declination. Declination is the difference between true north and magnetic north. Since magnetic north isn't exactly at the north pole the difference between that and true north changes depending where on earth you are. Maps are generally based on true north. Compass Raw should be the magnetic north reading. I think there are instructions in the owners manual to set your compass the regular way. That should correct that number for your location. You obviously didn't get your merit badge for map reading did you?

There is a partial list for the 2005 EVIC here

Whatever labels match up will be the same item on all of them. There's a more comprehensive list somewhere else but I forgot where.
