OK guys, i am very much aware of "all dyno's are different" and that we "take the numbers with a grain of salt" and "dynos are for tuning" blah, blah, blah...... well yesterday left me a bit perplexed......
on saturday 11/17 the local FLXC guys get together with a local viper tuner and have a m&g / dyno day bbq. fun times last year when we did it, so lets do it again.....
luis (ltdodge) is the first car to run..... he has 06chsrt8 with cai, cat-back,180 t-stat,predator w/93 octane tune....... he comes off at 369rwhp.....
this strikes me as a hair low for the mods, but ok, maybe the dyno is loaded differently, or calibrated differently than last year. keep in mind, SAME DYNO, SAME OPERATOR, SAME ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS (humidity was slightly less)......
i am the third car..... first run.....391....second 400......third 404!!!! WTF i say!!! then the operators realizes that the readings are from speed, not rpm......corrected the number read 363rwhp......wtf???? i did 378rwhp the last time on the very same dyno, under very similar conditions and this year i even added hi-flo cats!!!! anyway, i am thinking that obviously things are set different on the dyno and my numbers did seem to compare correctly to luis 369rwhp considering our mods. (i do not have pred).......
here is when things got strange.........
up comes a maggie with a stroked out 5.7.....419cubes now....... tons of mods, etc, etc....... lays down 400rwhp......now all of us are kinda looking at each other. still seems reasonable when comparing the number though...... but then the 5.7's begin to take their turns and things began to not make sense....
dead stock plum daytona 300rwhp
sublime with cat back/cai - 298rwhp
r/t w/rt staight pipes/cai - 303rwhp........
this is what seemed strange. i have seen these cars run before and they ran almost identical numbers last year, so my theory that the load on the dyno was changed kinda did not makes sense anymore. also, at the very end, another srt rolled on with IDENTICAL mods to luis and turned a 385rwhp. funny thing, we pulled the fuse on this car after two runs and the car went from 385rwhp down to 374rwhp!!!!! wtf!!! i had just pulled my fuse the night before to "liven" up the car, but could i have done myself in by doing so?????? anyone ever experience this????? seemed as if the early cars on the dyno ran lower numbers and the later in the day it got, the better the numbers got. can dyno's "warm up" or "break in"?????
anyway, sorry for the loooooooong post, but it just seemed a bit strange to me to witness two srt8's with identical mods run 16rwhp difference and to top it with seeing my own car, on the same dyno, same weather, do 15hp less even after the hi-flo cats were added?????? then to see more heavily modded cars do lower numbers than previously recorded while closer to stock cars run identical numbers, if not slightly better???? could the fuse pull kill that much????? any thoughts guys?????
