This road is probably known better by the 2-wheel folks but it is a blast no matter what you are diving...well, not so fun in that Ram Quad Cab a few years ago but oh what fun it is to ride in a Jeep SRT8! Hwy 129 between TN and NC. Known around here as "The Dragon's Tail" Enjoy!!!...I know I did. Put a sticky pod on the hood of the Jeep with a video camera. Lot of wind noise but the tires and exhaust make a few statements along the way. Of course the speed limit was never broken. Images in the video go by faster than expected with just a Jeep! This is starting from the TN side and heading south. Photobucket only let me post 5min but got 12 in all. http://http://www.tailofthedragon.com/dragon.html
Sweet Jimmy. I am heading up there with my motorcycle in July. I would love to take the jeep on it too.
holy crap i got dizzy from watching that hahaha...but looks like a lot of fun!!!...im sure you had a blast driving the speed limit and obeying all traffic regulations at all times....:shifty:
Nice...I enjoyed the dragon when I went. It was a lot of fun to run it with a pack of 15 skittles...:bigwink:
I so wish I lived within 50 miles of a road like that!!!! It would be a weekly practice. I love driving in the mountains. Picked up my ride in C-town and drove it through the smokies. Theres nothing worse than getting stuck behind a train of slow pokes.
I live about 30 minutes from there. Might have to go for a ride this weekend. Dont know if it wanna fight the Bikes though.
Yeah, it is a great road. Have a cabin about 80 miles or so from there. Have done it many times on my HD, Jeep and M3. Obviously weekdays are best. Here's a quick clip. Funny when kids in RV say "they're gonna beat our asses" and let's get out of here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57JwGSD8h-w
We went down this past Monday but it was still crowded. Got lucky with the THP as we did not see one all day...but we were driving the speed limit so it would not have mattered. Went thru Bristol a few weeks ago but in the wife's XC90...so...Want to come drag at Bristol some time and I'll let you know when I'm coming back in the SRT.
Wow. I watched that about 20 times. I'm figuring he was ok and then lost traction with the rear wheel on the paint strip. Then the correction and grade pointed him towards the ditch and he didn't think about laying it down. I think I would have hit the rear brake, sharp right turn and layed it down on the right side as I was going off the road.
Where did I see that thread about the SRT-6 guys who have an annual get together (from all over the country) at the Dragon's Tail?
