For my Valentine's day present, I received a nice deep ding in the driver side passenger door on my charger SRT8 (which now has 900 miles on it).
I took it to a local paintless dent removal shop here, and they did a fantastic job "popping" it out. However the problem now is the crack/gouge in the clearcoat.

Is this something a "good" paint shop or painter could wet sand and spray with clear to make it look normal again, or would it still show that the door had been "re-done"?

Any for of guidance would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Scott

thats a depressing first post haha...

do you have a picture of the gouge?...i dont believe you can just spray clear on it...but im no paint expert...i'd just go ask around see what prices are...did you see the car that did it?

Yeah it was parked next to me. I am going to try to get it to a few places this next week. I will also try to get some pictures posted.

Fixing depends on how deep. Was it down to primer? metal? just through the clearcoat? The degree of severity is proportional to cost, obviously.

Drew (aka: Stretch) found a ding kit at Walmart (?) I think... he'll be testing it out soon. PM him for information.

I am pretty sure its just in the clear coat. I got all his info...I parked away from everyone, but my company puts on a class in the spring and fall to teach people how to use the machines we manufacture, and just so happened yesterday was one of the days for training...

...I havent taken any more pictures yet but I did take some when it happened.

If you were to walk up to the door and look, most would NOT see it, but I do. And as far as having it repainted, I am sure they wont be able to match that black pearl exactly and I will still notice it...I am thinking probably wait a year and just have the whole car painted to a show finish...or something like that. LOL

Just ticks me off! Especially when I was in my beastly sunburnt hotrod diesel that morning, but thought "today is supposed to be nice, so lets drive the beauty!!"

Actually they can match it. When I got mine it had 1 or two scratches and some buff marks and the bottom of the cowl. Whatever paint shop the dealer uses did a perfect job. At least to my untrained eye. If the clear is not scratched/cracked through then they might be able to rub it out. You could try a wax that has fillers to remove severe swirl marks. Does it catch your finger nail?

If it's only the clear, without seeing it I'd say you have a few choices. It can be wet sanded with 1500 grit then polished, if still visible a coat of clear should fix it.
