CUP HOLDER MODIFICATION FOR 2004-2005 DODGE RAM SRT-10 (REGULAR CAB ONLY) This DIY article will show you a very cheap, easy, and quick fix for the cup holders in the 04-05 regular cab Ram SRT-10 trucks. Try to put a regular can of soda in there and floss the whip. The shift from 1-2 will empty the first half of your can all over your floor console and then onto the carpet. In case you missed an area, the shift from 2-3 will take care of that by emptying the rest of the can. I'm not sure what that damn holder is designed to hold, but it's certainly not a regular 12 oz. can. So, we're going to reduce it's Spill Factor by about 8. PRICE: About $1. TIME: About 5 minutes. DIFFICULTY: 1 Supplies required: - (1) foam beverage 'coozie' - Roll of masking tape - Roll of double-sided tape Tools required: - Razor blade (must be NEW!!!) (sorry- I'm not taking a picture of a single razor blade) Here's our can of soda inside our coozie (courtesy of Bill G. of Chesterfield Automotive Glass, Inc. who tossed me one at Mopar Nats). I opted to use his black one because it fit nicely and more closely matched the interior. With the soda in the coozie and then in the cup holder, we take the masking tape and mark the edge of the cup holder mold of the console: Try to keep it straight when you go across that 'notch' thing. Using your BRAND NEW razor blade, carefully trim along the tape line. The result should be something like this: TIP: For cutting foam, an electric carving knife works amazingly well. Super-clean cuts. Remove the masking tape. On what is to be the front of the foam insert, cut a vertical notch: This allows the foam to more closely match the actual diameter of the mold in the console. Apply a strip of double-stick tape across the center of the outside of the foam: This will keep the foam in place when you go to remove your can. NOTE: Like many things, the double-stick tape will wear out and need to be replaced. I've had that strip on there for about 6 months. Flip the foam upside down (cut side up), and set it in the mold in the console: Apply some pressure from the inside to help get that double-stick tape to stick to the console. Inserting a can is another good way to do that. The double-stick tape will hold well, but still allow you to remove the foam if you find yourself with a drink that needs the larger size of the molded cup holder. There ya go: a drink spiller turned into a drink holder! Enjoy! ©2008 Kevan J. Geier All Rights Reserved
If only it worked in the QC's.... :stars:oh::thongue2::sorry: Otherwise... Another AWESOME mod, by Kevan. :worthy:
Excellent Kevan. Yup, Chryslers BIGGEST flaw on these Trukita's is the cup holders. haha WTF were they thinking? About 2 years ago Avis did NOT reserve my Truck so they ended up giving me some Chevy MiniVan thing.. UGH! Best thing that came out of that was the cup holder inserts. haha They fit very nice in Maureens truck and also stopped the "Falling Out" of beverages. Thanks buddy.
Kevan nice mod and where have i seen this before??? oh yeah like 6 months ago when you did it! nice delay on the DIY:thongue2: Oh and Black1 what are you talking about? I have the same cup holders as you and I drive the pi$$ out of my truck (Kevan can back that up) and I have never spilled anything???
Ya gotta give Eddie a break. Ever since he pulled the Roe supercharger off his truck, he's been a little slower than usual. Speaking of slow..... (I think Jake was being sarcastic....)
