i had cablevision and then went to direct tv at my dad's place. we had it for years, no real complaints. had something like 1000 channels and two dvr's and the bill wasn't bad at all. now i'm back on cablevision again in the new place and it's not so bad. the one thing that i really like that cable has over satelite is on demand movies. i wish cable had that. but i would go back to dtv in a second if only because there are many chanels that i don't get now that i did on dtv (like bbc america....no top gear!).

I've had dishnet for years. The extended basic package. I think we've had maybe 3 outages for an hour or two in many many years. I switched from cable 'cause they had a free install, free equipment (sort of) deal. Turns out I'm actually paying $5/month for the box but tht includes repairs. So if it starts acting up (couldn't get a satelite or couple of channels a couple of times) they send someone out and take care of it. I think I'm payin $58/month for 1 DVR box and one regular box. These are the old ones that are basically single tuner boxes.

Wonder if I could switch to Direct TV on one of their promotions? I thought they were going to merge with Dishnet weren't they?

comparing cable to sat is like comparing a viper to a mustang. cable relies on old technology that cannot sustain the high quality HD signal we all want in a TV signal.

that being said, i have HD DVR with direct tv and yes, it is better than comcast and yes even dish (which ive also had) was better than comcast. the dvr for direct tv is free with my package and truthfully it blows away tivo that i had with comcast.

i live in a pretty mild climate though, a lot of rain, snow, etc can block the dish and thus cause havoc on your signal.
