They opted to pass on me for something stupid. One of those, if you'd dug deeper, you'd have a better understanding but no, you opted to just cross me off the list things. So whatever, I don't want to be stuck in a team where being honest or ethical is frowned upon if its uncomfortable.
Okay, so after deciding to pack the whole job thing in for the weekend and focus on spring cleaning or whatever, I get three different contacts this morning. 1) new networking contact 2) interview on Tuesday 3) contact about a job in the next town over So I'm not done yet, just trying to stay sane and hireable.
Okay, so I reached out to recruiters yesterday, heard back from three of five, and one of those put me in touch with a new recruiter who seems motivated. I had an interview with another company today, but since I won't hear anything for a few weeks, I'm forging ahead under the assumption that's a dead end. I have a second interview with a company coming up on Monday. On with the jobhunt.
Today's interview was great. They want someone with math skills, database background and general brains. I was able to come up with decent answers for the quiz, and for the live questions. I even found a bug in the script I had to make sense of in front of my potential boss and one of the head programmers. This was my second interview with this company for a developer position. They have other candidates they are interviewing/screening, so I won't know if I made it to the next round until sometime next week. All in all, I think I made a favorable impression. Tomorrow I have a screening call for another opportunity and I'm getting in touch with another recruiter I've been playing phone tag with since weekend before last. I'm also still waiting to hear about four or five other jobs that recruiters have submitted for, plus all the jobs I've been applying for. I'm finally getting into the groove of treating job-hunting like its a job, as well as keeping myself busy with projects like cleaning out storage and throwing stuff out in the meantime.
Okay, to sum up this past week. Good second interview with a company on Monday. Spoke with two new recruiters on Tuesday. Both of them called me on Thursday to set up phone interviews with their clients. The first interview was today, and it went well, so I should hear something by the end of next week. The other interview is scheduled for Monday afternoon. That recruiter told me the client had barely received my resume when they responded, demanding to set up an interview with me, so I'm optimistic. Since next week is the end of the month, I'll be getting some kind of a response about the company I interviewed with Monday, the company I interviewed with last week about an office manager job, and the company I had the phone interview this afternoon. Since we're coming up on the last quarter of the fiscal year for many companies, there's probably a push to hire. Even if its temporary its something, and I have a solid track record of getting hired on in my temporary jobs. Also, all these companies are either big Silicon Valley companies or at least very influential, so I'm really excited at just the propects. I'll let you all know how next week goes.
Alright, another month has passed. Waiting on the outcome of four interviews. Still looking for opportunities in case none of them pan out.
Alright, got passed over for two jobs. Haven't heard from a third, but the fourth is still in play, may hear something Tuesday. And just got off the phone with a new recruiter who thinks I'm awesome based on my resume alone (we'll see). Meeting with him on Tuesday morning. The search continues. Have a great weekend. I'll be busy throwing stuff out and putting other stuff on eBay.
If it makes you feel any better on average it is taking people roughly 90 days to land a job. On my latest job hunt I started actively looking and applying in september and had an offer by mid november.
Yeah, July 11th marks 3 months since I finished school. I started looking the first of April, so its been about 90 days, maybe a bit more. I'm just plugging away at it and using this as an excuse to get rid of clutter and sell crap I don't need any more.
Getting used to getting rejection letters at this point. Have one maybe job that may go forward with the interview process. Given I haven't heard anything substantive in over a week, I'm assuming the worst and trying to apply to at least a couple of jobs a day. Managing to scrape by this month on my mom's OT pay and some extra funds that Marc has. On a mission to empty out one storage space to reduce that bill by half, and selling books, CDs, and video games at a used book store, while putting toys on eBay to get some extra cash of some kind on hand.
Whew, Tam; when I first read the title I thought it said "Date a geek for hire"! LOL Sorry, you know I'm old and the ole eyesite ain't what it used to be! Best of luck on your job search! I know it's tough out there!
I'm still looking but the prospects seem to have all dried up. So I'm just plugging away at the hunt. Recommendations/referrals always welcome.
Anyone need a database built or tweaked? Need some forms or other documents drawn up/designed? I have all the latest MS Office plus some Adobe and other goodies for such applications.
It should. Gonna hunker down and build it out in linux using mysql and see if your admin will accept it.
Alright, not a lot of updates lately. Took a weekend off from jobhunting/obsessing to deal with some family stuff. It was a nice mental break, so I was able to look at my resumes and networks with fresh eyes and do some serious retooling. I'm working as an admin assistant again (parttime) so I've updated my resume to show that I'm currently working instead of idling, and I've updated and republished my resumes both to all the usual jobsites and to the recruiters I've been in touch with. In the meantime, I'm cleaning out my storage, finding some gems to put on eBay or some duds to take to the used bookstore. I'm on LinkedIn, so if anyone would like to join my network there, just send me a PM.
Part time anything is way better than fulltime nothing! I´m actually doing some hours as a driving tutor.... Anyone knowing me would get a big laugh from that thought! Fredrik:zorro:
