Is it possible to change the "intensity" of the light in the dash.... basically...what im talking about is taking the OEM gauges...and making them "more green" with like a green LED set or something like that.... I have no idea what im taklin about here...so just looking for some ideas....
lol i thought your thread title said dash light insanity. so i clicked on it thinking "oh great, what's wrong with his car now?"
Ya Steve, you can take the cluster apart and install some green film. Long ago in a far away thread, there was a write up on it. I never did mine, but always intended too. McMaster Carr sells plastic shim material that happens to be different color depending on thickness, that's what was used. Let me see if I can find you anything. BRB. Oop's, not mcmaster but Grainger. Part number 3L881. The green is .003 thick and is very transparent. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/search.shtml?searchQuery=3L881&op=search&Ntt=3L881&N=0&sst=All
So does that go over/under the dash overlay? Ideally what I would like to do...is to take one of the red fox racing ones...put it on, with the green "enhanced" if you will so that its a closer match to my auto meter gauges, but the actual face of the gauges in the car (during the day) are white.
Here's one way, but not what I was talking about. Still looking http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=62931 Ya, the way I'm talking about is to take apart the cluster and lay in over the areas you want. Ok, can't find it. Sorry man, but it was not hard at all to do. If you read that link, you'll see how to take everything apart and you'll figure it out.
yeah it looks like hes putting the blue overlay on TOP of the gauges... I have a feeling that if i really want what im looking for im gonna have to buy new a pillar gauges again guess we will see how anal i am....
You're talking about changing the color, not the intensity, right? In order to match your pillar gauges?
Well the gauges are green, so i would be able to live with not an exact match. I would be happy if I could just make the OEM gauge color a little more "greener" i guess lol
Hey Steve, check this out. You can buy just the sheet you need. I bet the dookster can hook you up. http://www.precisionbrand.com/ProductsCatalog/PBPCategoryDetails.aspx?Catid=68
Does that go over the gauges (like it was in the LXF thread) or "behind" them so the light shines through more "green".
Yes sir, can do...not PBP brand like your link, but same shit different brand. Check out Maudlin & Sons, or Horizon Shims...those are what we sell here. My cost is your cost, just cover freight also...And I would try an overlay on the BACK of the cluster.
so....just so we are clear if i put a sheet of the green type of this BEHIND the face of my gauges...the color would be more GREEN than LIGHT GREEN
Steve, you'll just have to give it a shot man. Buy a few sheets of it, hell it's not expensive and see how it looks. And yes, behind the face. Here's a couple shitty phone pic's. It's a lot more transparent then it looks here. It's also a bad ass shade of green, like Talon's accent color.
haha yeah i'll probably try it all at once when i get my new speedo...i also have to see if he can do the black speedo or if i am going to do the OEM style w/ this stuff behind it
