Okay then can someone post a sticky of the actual names and part# of a 180 T-Stat for the Jeep and one that will not cause the radiator cap to puke
With the stock stat my runs around 207-210 and never has gone any higher so far. I hope some 1 will make a aftermarket stat that will fit without modded them to our stock size. If theres 1 out there that can fit without modding it to fit our housing let me no.
I use the 170 (valucraft 4127, actually a 176) from Spring to Autumn with no issues other than an occasional Cell, and go back to the stock 203 to get good heat from the fan for Winter months. It's -4F right now, I need all the heat I can get
Does the valucraft cause bubbling, I've had to drill holes in some of mine in the past for other vehicles
No bubbling that I know of, it already has a small hole in it for the failsafe feature that you align at the top. Mine needed to be grinded a bit to fit correctly
THANK YOU for reminding me of that and GOT STROKE? will agree and from experience tell you that you MUST file the outer ring of the t-stat in order for the rubber gasket to fit propertly, this can be done with sand paper I'm sure, but not sure what grit and do a little at a time and test fit
You got it, bench grind the circumference down a bit, you'll be glad you did. FWIW, I got coolant spray through the rad cap even with the stocker, it's no worse now with the 176 (which I've been running for over a year now with no CEL/MILs).
I dont have a bench grinder what grit sand paper would work???? There is a shoe shine machine at the bank I could duct tape some sand paper to it and turn it onrop:
I had the dealer put mine in. Same stat Andy is using. They did it during an oil change and only charged me $30. Was worth it to me. Done right and no headaches.
Fluid Splash You fluid splash is due to the stock/factory radiator cap. Kick it to the curb and install a Stant. The factory cap is a POS.
Go around it in a circle with a Dremel about 20-30 times......then it will fit. Make sure you get it to fit as smoothly as the stock one before you button it up.
Use the sandpaper, you'll need two of them. Like i said, unless you have calipers, make sure you install it then install the stock one and make sure they fit the same and that the rubber O ring is fit in properly or she will leak around the housing once up to pressure.
TStat I ran the Jeep bone stock at Firebird last year. At 215 it ran 13.7 I let it cool off and ran it at 185, it ran 13.4. The danger of running a lower tstat is running lower ET's. BTW: I've been running the 176 tstat in my 300 for about 50,000 miles with no issues except lower ET's
