Gentlemen and Ladies, Yesterday (5-12-08), I received the Cruzin Grand information packet from the Downtown Escondido Association, here are the final details regarding the event happening this Friday Evening (5-16-08) in Escondido. There has been a slight change in the way I thought things were going to happen. We WILL NOT be issued individual parking passes. Instead, security will be on hand to reserve our 26 parking spaces along the 300 block of W. Grand Ave (between Orange St. and Escondido Blvd.) on both sides of the Street. When you arrive, park on either side of Grand Ave between the signs that read "Reserved for SOCALLX'ers". Security will only be available to us from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Because of this, I strongly encourage everyone to try and show up between these times. After 6:00pm, I’m not sure how we will be able to keep the public from taking any unoccupied spaces (although we will try). Also, I want to make clear, the area we have been given is just outside of the main event area, this is something that’s not negotiable. I tried to get us spaces E of Escondido Blvd. closer to the main action, but was immediately informed, this area is reserved for pre 1974 cars only. In my opinion, it would be nice if we could do a Cruz up and down Grand Ave at least once with as many of our cars as possible. The only way I see this happening is, to schedule a Cruz for 5:30pm. This way we could Cruz up and down Grand and still have security available to protect our parking spaces. After we do the Cruz we would return to our reserved parking area and everyone would be free to walk the event. Please give me your thoughts about this idea? One last thing, I found out, La Tapatia Restaurant does not take reservations for Friday or Saturday nights, first come first served. Employees of the Downtown Escondido Association tell me, La Tapatia takes good care of the car club members that park in front of their restaurant. With that said, as soon as I arrive at 4:00pm, I’m going to reserve a table for 12 people for 7:00pm. If you think you might want to join the group for dinner, please let me know and I will adjust the reservation as needed! FYI – I’ve Cruzed this event many times in the past. Cars will start parking along Grand Ave at 4:00pm and all the action will start at around 6:00 to 8:00pm, at 8:00 to 9:00pm people will start going home. See You There! Shawn. If we are at the end of the "reserved area". That means people that park farther down Grand will get to see us first as they walk down the row of cars. I won't get my KillerGlass piece in time. I had hoped to have it on by then. I paid for it a week ago and I don't know if it has even shipped.
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL! We are starting to exceed the number of reserved spaces alloted to us. That is if everyone that RSVP'd shows up. I've never been to an event that had 100% of those that RSVP'd, show up. However, in case we do, I want to strees the importance of showing up before 6:00pm. The group will do everything it can to save parking spaces after 6:00pm, but, because of the situation, I can't promise we will be able too.
