Does anyone recommend aftermarket cross drilled rotors for the SRT8! I was told you could drill the stock rotors and give them the aggressive look without harming the braking and save money? :dunno2:

Unless this is done absolutely perfectly you're going to chew up your pads in no time flat. IMO, it's a bad idea to try and save money on something as critical as your braking system. Take the time to save up for top quality replacement rotors. You'll never regret it. BTW, doesn't your ride qualify for the rotor TSB? Maybe get yourself a set of groovy slotted factory rotors for free!

I wouldn't do that. How and where they're drilled is critical. Are they beveled correctly? etc. You *really* don't want a rotor failure and especially not at a bad time.

    1) Our cars are heavy. The unsprung weight you're saving with cross drilled rotors is not significant
    2) I'd be worried about "after-market" drilled rotors. If not drilled correctly they will have a tendency to crack/fracture around the holes. They may even tear up your pads.
    3) functionally you won't gain anything over the slotted rotors
    4) We have very sophisticated braking systems designed by Brembo specifically for our cars. If you just have to have the bling then go for quality rotors
    5) If you just have to have the bling for a bling-only price then make sure you don't drive over parade limits.

Short answer: What are you thinking?

Actually I had/have a full set of OEM pads and slotted rotors a GSM with only a few thousand miles on them.

    OZ,

Do you know what the TSB # is, so I can take it into the dealer. Pork Chop in service is telling me their isn't such a thing without even checking into. Thanks, Bro.

id assume youd probably want to buy aftermarket ones. I wouldnt want to risk screwing up the stock rotors and pads. Then you would have to go out and buy aftermarket ones anyways.

I just put a set a of cross drilled/slotted rotors for the rear on my srt-4.

You probably wouldnt need to upgrade your brakes unless you road course or just drive really fast all the time.

    Never mind,

Pork Chop called me back and they will only change the rotors if their is a problem (such as shimmy, shaking or other problems when braking)and the problem has to fall within the specs set for the replacement! Then I find out it is 1 year or 12k miles from DOP! Go figure, purchase date was Oct 31 of 06. I missed it by 15 days.

One of my club members has a '06 Magnum SRT-8 and he was telling me about that TSB and he showed me the grooves on the rotors looked with 5-8K miles on the car. He brought it in and got the new slotted rotors installed. I just recently drive his car for the first driving a 6.1 Hemi and those brakes stop on a dime I gotta say.

Depends on who makes them, thicknes, etc. Most of the time, with the heat build up and less material due to the holes, cracks can happen as well as warpage. I definitely would not get yours drilled. Me personally, I wouldn't have them, only slotted.
