folks - when the hi fans are running, does that mean BOTH fans are running, or just one????? i just picked up the car on friday after getting the bumper fixed and i am noticing the temps are running well above where they were prior. i noticed only one of the fans running when the car was running. i was hearing the same loud sound like when the hi fan speed is in operation. the fan running was the upper fan on the passenger side. i always thought BOTH fans ran at differing speeds depening on temp (faster on hi, slower on low). anyone know how the fans EXACTLY operate?????

fyi - i have a rdp tune that has the high fans turning on at 185 degrees. the hi speed fan operation runs / cycles constantly. temps never got beyond 188 even on super hot/humid days in traffic, under normal driving. i have already had the fans replaced once under warranty!!!

Run it real hard.... let it sit while the engine is running.... stick your fingers through both grills... then let us know.

    lmao^^^^

Chris, the low fan should still be running when the high fan kicks on.

Are you sure that the high fan is the one running? Many of us had to have the high speed fan replaced (under warranty) because the fan failed...

yes, at least the same sound is being made. that is why i am trying to figure out EXACTLY how the fans operate. i have only one running right now and making the same loud sound as it always makes when the high speed fan operation kicks in. i have already had the fans replace once!!!!

The high-speed fan is the one located on the passenger side of the car and yes, the low speed fan should be running at the same time as the high-speed fan is running. If the low-speed fan isn't running then I say you've got a problem with the low-speed fan. I lost my low-speed fan severals months ago and that's exactly what I noticed...the temps were getting a little bit higher than normal.

steve my friend, that is exactly my situation...... i can still hear / see the high speed fan running, but when i pop the hood to look, the fan on the drivers side (low speed) is just sitting there doing nothing!!! i usually run between 183 - 188 in city traffic, but i am now seeing 188 - 200. not as bad as when the high speed fan crapped out and the car would shoot up to 225!!!! YIKES!!!

the car goes in next thursday to get fixxed!!!

    thanks buddy!!!

Glad I could help Chris. I'm hoping the problem with the fans dying in our cars isn't going to be a re-occuring thing every couple of years. If so, I'm going to be pissed off!!! It seems that it has nothing to do with them running all the time since my low-speed fan was actually cracked in half and once cracked in half it expanded and rubbed against the inside of the fan shroud. Once this happened the fan motor burned out. Hopefully we can get a vendor to make some replacement fans for us since the factory fans are made of some cheap plastic.

I have to replace my entire assembly.............

thought that one fan the engine fan was out, bought a new motor 113$. Took the unit apart and found the fan has been rubbing A LOT on the shroud melting plastic and causing the motor to draw high amps and burn up.

Not only did it destroy the main motor and the fan, upon further investigation it has happened to both sides!

Take your assembly out it takes about 10 mins with a flat head 10mm 8mm deap sockets a 1/4 ratchet and a 1/2 wrench. The fan blade nut is reverse threads.

Buy the one off ebay! 152$ new fans and motors..........don't just change one motor!

I will assume there isn't a noticeable difference in sound when it starts rubbing? or does it just sort of happen gradually so you don't notice it.

this is exactly what happened the first time i had fan issues. both fans crapped out that time because of the fan blades rubbing against the shroud. friggin not going to be a good thing if this is a recurring issue!!! anyone make any aftermarket assemblies that are worth a shit???

my first experience was a gradual thing that i never realized was happening....this time, things just stopped without warning on the low speed fan. hi still works (thank goodness), but with the low out, temps are about 5 - 10 degrees warmer!!!
