    Hey folks.
I have a ton of pics and great notes from the clutch install in the truck.
What's the vote on doing a DIY article for it?

WARNING: It will be LONG, with LOTS of pictures.
Difficulty level is about a 7 too.

    Vote away!

What... a clutch replacement involving an engine lift made with 2x4s and a tie-down strap? and you think someone might vote against seeing that?

The only reason I wouldn't do it is that it'd be copied and pasted to other forums (some where people would have to PAY to view it).
Or, some vendor using it as their instructions.

That's the part that sucks, and what's keeping me back from LOADING this forum up with DIY articles: CalTracs, shocks, lowering, clutch, driveshaft, and a bunch of others.

    It's a shame, but.....

Kind of a dilema there... If you don't put it up for free access how can end users find it? I think the best you can do is make it clear that it's "copyrighted" and then police that as best you can. If you're looking to sell the material then you wouldn't want to post it.

I'm not looking to sell them, but there are people out there profiting off of my articles.

I do? I've never been to VTCOA. Do you have to pay to get access to the knowledge base areas? Vendors I guess you could pursue individually. The problem is, how to distribute the information?

    Yes.
It's the only section there you have to pay to access.

Haha. I'll bet there is a nolo press article on protecting intelectual property rights. You could at least give them notice that they are selling your material without your permission and if it isn't removed immediately you will be taking legal action.

Yeah....but more trouble than it's worth.

It's sad, but I think I'll keep them to myself.

That is sad. Here's an idea if you wanted to share them. Bit more work to get set up but not so much after.

You could do it like a mailing list. You could have the truck people (or whoever) subscribe. And whenever you crank one out you just send it to the list.

Another idea would be to "watermark" your pictures. With a large watermark it would take a lot of work to edit it out of the pictures and without the pictures it would be kind of useless. A good watermark might be www.srtconnection.com How-To :D

Not bad. Could do a PDF for the mailing list option.

I was thinking of a "Members Only" area here, but with $0.00 as the charge.
The problem is, only need one traitor to mess it all up.

    I hate watermarks.
And, I usually put a lot of stuff in the text too.

    It's a crappy situation.
    Sorry everyone.
