After hitting Advance Auto Parts & Auto Zone BOTH tonight, they're out of the "Chrysler specific" coolant by Zerex, the G-05 stuff. I'm gonna try Napa & O'Reilly tomorrow. But is there anything else I can use?? The Charger is BACK by the way.....FEELING STRONG. It is, 100%, legitimately FIXED. For real this time. Everything up until this point was just bullshit, because it was a head gasket all along. Been driving the HELL OUT of it so far, with zero issues. And gonna be driving it all weekend. Anyway, thanks for any help on the coolant guys. I just need to top it off, and don't want to use water.
Amazon.com had it too. Free shipping when I bought a gallon a couple of weeks ago. Just get some distiller water and mix it 50/50
Last time mine was filled......after a complete drain. Prestone "Extended Life Antifreze/Coolant" was used. The bottle states...."ALL Makes, ALL Models of cars and light trucks, add to any color antifreeeze". No problems seen in the last 2,000 miles...... especially no over hetaing of any kind and fluid stills looks good. What should I expect to see happen if it doesn't work? ..
Gaskets, seals, hoses, fittings, corrosion, material breakdown, stuff like that is possible. ...and it won't happen immediately.
But....but...but.. Don't you think Prestone stands behind what they say? I didn't pick some off brand "custom designed super-fluid with superior "wetting" and temperature stabilizing characteristics...yada, yada, yada". That was used by everybody you didn't know. By the way.... this is what Cam used when he installed my BES/HHP Stage 2 top end. When he told me to use it to top off the coolant botltle as it finished "burping out the air", he also informed that what he used to fill the system. I figure between him and what the bottle says???? ..
I am a sucker for punishment. I paid him up front in full.... with a tip. Actually since you and I were running a similar set-up......I just wanted to 1-up you. ..
NOW you are going to get Dave going... I have read a few threads about these "super fluids". http://www.srtconnection.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19516 ..
What he said^^^ Chase, stick with factory recommendation, can't go wrong there. I'm really happy to see you enjoying the Charger finally.
His fluids are not terrible (that we now of). He is just "over selling". Custom blending is not necessary for oil thet is changed every 3000-5000 miles. Much less custom blending for a particular engine?? Or additives for problems that don't exist. so on...so on...so on..
what is the issue with the coolant from factory getting all gunked up? if I replace with OEm again is that likely to happen again?
