What could cause my steering wheel to shake when braking? I don't have issues when driving, only when applying the brakes.

    several things can cause this...

The most common is front tires being out of balance.

    Shocks could be faulty.

Brake pads might need replacing and/or rotors need turning...

    Ron summed it up!

Also, check the sidewall wear on your tires. The most inner and outer edges of the tires that meet the ground. They tend to wear down uneven if you have camber or alignment issues.

Your tires might just need balanced or rotating and balance.

i feel a very slight vibration, is that anything to worry about? I play on changing my break pads soon anyways.

When changing the brakes, have the tires balanced.

Could be brake pad wear or just need a balance or tire rotation and balance.

I just changed the brake pads so I doubt it's that. Although, it's most likely the struts and tires. I've been meaning to change my struts. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't something else since I only feel it when I brake. Thanks guys.

Who did the brakes? Did the rotors get turned?

Do you experience a pull to the left or right when braking as well?

Shake under braking usually = warped rotors.

This is true. I almost forgot about that. This also could be a possibility.

did you put new rotors or at least get them turned? if so that would be your issue, start from there

i would bet on your rotors being warped. that's usually the cause of vibrations like that. if the tires were out of balance then you would feel the vibration all the time, not just breaking.
