A few months ago I had an APS 2800 TC installed. Mods at the time were Indy heads, Airaid and an email tune based on 3 logged runs.

I had no real issues with the TC except that it just wouldn't stall more than around 2100 RPM, no matter what I did but I gave it a few thousand miles just because...

Since then my car arrived at PPP and the guys there took it for a few blasts around town. Andy commented to me that he "thought I had a converter" and had the same results I did...it felt basically stock.

Well, after some brief discussion with Jeff at MSC and Andy at PPP I decided to have a different TC installed as the motor was out anyway and am going to send the APS back to be disassembled I guess.

I am not bashing the APS unit except that, well, it didn't do anything for me. Just FYI.

    Damn Jon, that is strange...

Obviously it was stalling higher than OEM, but nowhere near what it should have stalled.

Sorry you had the issue, but DAMN glad MSC and PPP took care of you.

Jon...I just had my ProTorque 2800 installed and it works well. The only problem I'm having is that when I mash the pedal pretty hard out of 1st and that TC flashes...nothin' but smoke.Hahahaha Sorry to hear about your APS unit. You might want to try out the ProTorque if your getting another TC.

Ya, I waited quite a while so I didn't rush to any judgements. I beat the shiznitz out of my car trying to get it to stall higher (and I have a feeling Andy at PPP did also :)) but it just wouldn't get there.

I am having PPP put their PI 2800 in as it is just by far easiest thing to do as my car is there now.

I will say Jeff at MSC has been super cool about the whole thing. I saw a post somewhere else he made about also selling the ProTorque converters now and are having better luck with them, or something to that effect.

I'll post up my new results Sunday or so when I arrive from my 21 hour drive home from Kentucky :)

I followed a few threads you had around Hal and definitely didn't want to rush to bash.
I am sure APS will take the thing apart and see what's up...it was definitely the same converter I received in the mail...I my dealer bud install the thing and JUST in case the wrong one was installed I waited until it could definitely be verified that was the one installed. Yup. That's it. Paperwork says something like APS HEMINAG2800...

I don't think any of the converter companies have a perfect record. No one was really doing much other than APS when I ordered mine. It was custom built, and I think they called it The Challenger. It was built to handle heavy doses of N2O, and serious torque.

Glad to hear the MSC is taking care of it.

Well Hal likes his. But mine was a POS. I don't have anything good to say about APS. And after reading your experiance, my opinion got much worse. Here's what I found with their product. And I'm happy to hear that PPP hooked you up. I bought mine from Jeremy and after I let them know that I was having problems, nothing ever got resolved. Also, the yahoo from APS that came aboard my thread never did follow through with his offer.

Mine was custom built. It's not an off the shelf unit. We'll see how it holds up to alot more power.

I read through your thread before and actually decided to get an APS anyway. I have no data logging or dynos to use to really see what was going on with the TC, but it just felt stock. There was one other thing that I can't really call an issue, but was there:
when cruising up some street in D at say, 35 or 40 mph...the car had a slight surge to it...I could feel it and see it in the digital RPM readout. It never did that until the TC install.
Now it's stall is zero I guess...

I actually drove this car and felt absolutely nothing at all. I told Jon ahead of time that he didnt need a new converter, but after driving it (rather hard), there just wasnt anything there. I have driven pro-tq cars as well and they didnt really do much for me, but they did stall to their rating. The PI is the best converter out there hands down IMO.

Now Jon, I know you have more pictures than that!

What's different between the PI and the ProTorque converters? Just curious since I just got the ProTorque 2800 installed.

Larry, I think your success with it was what finally made me decide to go with APS. This one just felt stock...like it got mixed up on the shelf.

    Jon-
I got PPP's new "426 Converter" sitting at my installer's garage waiting to go in. Sounds like the one you're getting too. This thing is supposed to be a beast, should hold up to some stout power. Keep me posted on your thoughts.

Only problem I had with a APS was getting my core charge deposit back....the TQ worked great and I definitely knew it was there..took some getting use to.....but it has been a while and as I have told you about some dealings with other vendors sometimes service/quality degrades over time...if that TQ is truely a 2800 stall speed you would know it without a doubt...

Twin Cities, specifically No. St. Paul. I still consider my self from there:)

Anything would be better than stock, which is what the APS felt like. Will keep you posted!

No doubt now...but I had nothing else to compare it to as far as LX's except my memory.

My stock one is still sitting in my garage...I forgot about it for a few months. I shoulda left it in the path between my door and the beer fridge in the garage...:p "OUCH...WTF!?!?! Oh yea...I need to do......ummm, something..."

I agree Cam....in my 2006 Jeep it slowed the vehicle down.
