Looks like this weekend will be my first trip to the track. Just looking for any sort of tips that I can that can give me a better edge on my times? Also Im running the predator 93 cai, would I benefit more by getting a custom tune before going to the track? Any input would be great, Thanks!
I don't know much about launching the Jeeps, but I had some decent luck with my Charger when I had a couple of bolt-ons. Here is some advice I got before I went.. "After I get my timing slip, I write down what/who I ran and anything that I think is pertinent to that run, like 'spun hard', 'bogged bad', and whether or not I changed anything in the tune for that run." Be sure to let the Jeep cool as much as possible between runs, I always iced my intake manifold and let the big fan cycle onn and off. I'm not sure how to totally disable the the ESP/BAS on a Jeep, that helped me out quite a bit though. Main thing is have fun though, if you get close to your goal you can always play with tire pressure and cutting weight. I was able to get into the 12's on my second visit.
I suggest you take a seat in the stands while you are waiting for your turn. Watch how everyone stages, exits the track etc.... It becomes second nature real quick, but that first time you pull up to the burnout box is pretty intimidating. Most importantly, have fun.
Also, when pulling up to the staging lights how do you go about the waterbox from what I hear is to drive around it. Then how do you go about warming up the tires, or since the jeep does a great job launchin do you not worry bout that? Sorry havent done this before so just tryin to get as much info.
i always burned my "clean", being that you can't really get enough heat into a street tire to justify the abuse. I always drove around the water. That first time really gets your heart beating!!
Bondy, No need to try and do a burn out. Besides I don't think you could unless you have done the 2WD mod. Drive around the water! I cut the trac. control off by pushing the button on the dash. cut everything else off inside (radio,a/c or heater, etc) pull up to the staging lights and put it in auto stick (1st gear). Here is where you will have to learn your Jeep. Some say to just hammer the gas off idle, for me, about a 1200RPM stall works best. Some say to stall the maximum you can. Like I said this is where you will have to play with your Jeep. Oh, take off when you see the last yellow bulb, before the green one, light up.
I always pump the front tires to 50LBs...rears down to 20LBs to increase traction.......but with all-wheel you might try 45 in all 4 tires.....higher pressure reduces contact patch which reduces rolling drag......get tank down under 1/4 tank to reduce weight........put a towel on your intake with a couple bags of ice to cool....do this in between runs to cool that heat hatin hemi down........and yes, stay out of the water boxes....and good luck..
ask which side of the track the exit is on at the end of the track!!!! no water box no burnouts for you jeep guys stall to around 1200 rpm leave RIGHT when you see the last yellow stay focused on the track ahead and listen to what the car is doing......... at the end of the track pay close attention to where the other car is so you do not get crossed when trying to exit.
