Thanks Quick, but we can skip the compactor stuff. It's far too slow for this app.
    I need 6" in about 0.5 sec.
The oil filter crusher is a cool idea though.

Air was considered for this project, until I remembered that air compressors sound like automatic gun fire (ever run a Wagner PowerPainter? I had a SWAT team show up when I painted the inside of the garage).
As the system is continually in use, the compressor would be running A LOT.

Thanks for your help, everyone. I appreciate it.

Will the ones the low riders use work?

Try used "Indusrial Supplies - Used". They can also be found listed under " Electronics - Used" and probably "Aircraft Parts - Used".
A lot of these places don't have Internet addresses but are phone book listed.
They buy out "lots" of unused materials that industrial companies (or companies that have closed down) don't want or have to get rid of. For pennies on the dollar.
If you find a good place, it will be a are virtual gold mine sometimes for all sorts of pumps, valves, hose, piping, SS tanks, SS tubes, chambers, instruments, wiring, special plugs.....etc. The best places are in or near large cities.

    Okay...okay....I'll spill:

It's a remote gas door opener!

A spring just seemed so un-trick.
