After getting a "check Engine" light on my "06 SRT8 Magnum, the scanner indicated a misfire on number one cylinder. Thinking it probably was a bad coil pack or wire, I took it to the local Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep dealership. They told me it was a bent valve, although the car ran like gang busters. That was in October and I am still waiting for the car because SRT does not fix cylinder heads, only replaces them. The heads are made by Arrow Racing of Auburn Hills, MI and neither they nor anyone else presumably has any. The dealer says SRT is very picky about anyone else working on these engines and component parts, so the dealership cannot send out the head to be fixed. Has anyone heard of other problems like this? The dealer told me that there currently are 57 other SRT8 cars in the country waiting for heads and they don't know when more will be manufactured. Unbelievable.

Yes its a problem that happens but no one knows why?? And yep the heads are on back order! Is the car still under warrenty??? If not why did you take it to the dealer? And looks like its time to get some ported and polished heads!

You probably can buy ported heads from a vendor for half of what a dealer will charge.....unless it is a warranty thing any competent auto machine shop can repair the heads.....

Timing chain tensioner on my 06 Mag SRT8 broke back in August. Bent almost all of the valves due to PTV contact. Took the car to Injected Engineering here in Georgia and instead of 6.1 heads, went with a pair of ported 5.7 Eagle heads from Arrington. Since your car is at the dealership, the Eagles do not seem like an option for you in this case. Did they mention any timing chain issues with your car?

The Mag is still under an extended warranty. Had I known at the beginning it was going to take this long, I would have bargained for an aftermarket set of heads against Chrysler's cost for a rental car and the cost to them for the new head and replacement labor. The car rental cost alone would have paid for the heads. I would have no problem replacing the heads myself. Today is January 2nd, I just talked to Wilde Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep in Waukesha, WI again, and they still don't even have a projected date. Time to check with consumer advocacy groups to see what recourse action I can take through current consumer laws.

They said there was no contact with the piston top, and they even said they got good compression. What? That made no sense. They explained it by telling me the bend was so slight that it apparently only happened when idleling, but when the engine speed picked up, it closed properly. Presumably, SRT is so picky that they will not let anyone other than a few hand picked machine shops work on these things. I am about at the point that if they cannot replace the heads, replace the whole damm engine...like a 6.4....LOL!

Request to inspect the heads and the top of the pistons for yourself...
