I ran a 14.495 @ 100.99 on a .021 light. kept smoking the tires or bogging. It was my very first time ever driving a stick shift at the drags so i guess that i can not complain too much. Wife ran a 14.601 @ 95.00 on a .761(!!!) light in the PT Turbo. (Her first time ever.) I know I have more in that SRT-4. I was hoping for a 13.9. but i guess not. Any tips on launching these thing at the strip. i am really good on the street but on the sticky pavment i just cant quite get it.
FWD Manual cars need slicks period! Unless your not that into drag racing seriously. Other than that you will be fighting for traction and never get any good times.
205/50R17 89W Sumitomo HTRZ 160 Treadwear @ 36psi Car should have 93 Y XL though. bought it that way. i think the sidewalls are too soft. well that i agree with. My tires are streets 205/50r17 w/ 160 treadwear. I have seen 13.7's to .9's on similar cars. i guess ill need more practice. My stage 1 kit when that gets here..... should help. my shifts are perfect not a miss with the short throw.... but the time it is taking for the turbo to re-spool i think is keeping me from the 13's.
Way back when mine was stock it ran a best of 14.007, never could get that darn 13, lol. Had to leave the line just over idle and roll into it as it could take it, this was a street night, so no track prep.
Look at his sig. Thats not bad at all for your first time. I ran a best of 14.8 the first time at the track period and I just learned how to drive a stick 5 months prior. Granny shiftin'
stock boost. stage one, aem cold air, Borla cat delete and cat back. msd coil and wires. solid mounts.
Tips for driving this car. 1. Raise rear tire pressure to 50psi, lower fronts to 20psi or until your trap speeds start going down. 2. Launch at 2500-3000 rpms and give the car a gentle intial launch then give her the spurs. 3. Keep the throttle planted, then blip the clutch and shift. This is WOT shifting, hard on the tranny good for the times 4. When staging, barely trip the second light. This is called shallow staging and it gives you a couple feet before you trip the timer. Good mods 1. N2MB WOT box/2-step It controls launch rpms and builds boost at start line. It also kills ignition timing between wot shifts, ensuring shift accuracy and tranny durability. 2. Slicks 3. Practice (teh driver mod) The last factor is, sometime the track just plain sucks....Temple Academy Raceway suffers from this malady. :dumb:
<--- looks to get my first trip down the drag strip later this month. I'm not expecting to get real good numbers, but hoping to be good enough to beat my brother in his mustang.
Try pre-loading the drivetrain. After staging hold car w/handbrake, bring RPMs up ( I leave at 5K) start releasing clutch until it almost engages wait for 2nd yellow to go out then floor it while releasing clutch and handbrake, all the slack is removed this way and you will not break an axle. PS if you want to go fast or want hardcore parts Darrell is the guy to talk to...you can't go wrong w/Realtune either
