So here's a picture of brand new transmission fluid next to the transmission fluid I pulled out after the 10 second quarter mile pass. Who can guess which one is which?
Jesus Matt, I would say that the fluid on the right is a little lite. lol Damn, that fluid is burnt beyond recognition. WOW. How does it smell? Taste? Feel? hahahahaha Hope everything internally is still ok.
It smells horrible, but it feels slippery. I stuck some tubing down the fill tube and started a siphon. That was too slow, so I used a syringe, 12CC at a time, and sucked 3 1/2 quarts of tranny fluid out. (apparently 50% of total capacity). Then I used a funnel and poured exactly the same amount of fresh fluid back in. I sucked out fluid until nothing else would come out but air. Significantly, no metal shavings at all. Not even any fine dust. Nothing. No metaliic sparkle even. So tomorrow I'll do the same thing, and that will get me to 75% fresh fluid and 25% old fluid. Perhaps another round after that to get to about 88% fresh. That should be enough. We'll see.
Isn't there an easier way to drain the tranny? If no drain plug (? or pan?) then maybe try some sort of suction device like is used to change the oil. I guess you could go to the store and get an injection syringe used for injecting spices/herbs into meat. These syringes are HUGE.....with a little tube on the end......it would be faster than 12cc at a time.
LOL - like you think that didn't occur to me the 587th time I filled the syringe? A bigger syringe and some bigger tubing would be awesome. I just used what I had on hand. I'll look for a meat syringe and bigger tubing to fit it in the future. :good:
Maybe you could have gotten the meat syringe between the 151st and the 350th....lol. Are you trying a different oil?
LOL - I could have, but where's the sport in that? I'm using Valvoline synthetic ATF +4. OF course, all ATF +4 is synthetic, and allegedly all ATF +4 is the same, as it's a proprietary Chrysler product licensed to 3rd partyies like Valvoline. There's a couple of things out there like Royal Purple that imply they are compatible, but after reading hundreds of threads and posts over at the MB forums, I figured I'd just stay with ATF +4. No need to throw any more variables into the mix at this point.
All I can say is this: http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/atf.aspx Get some I tested it against the Mopar ATF+4 in the truck and it ran 80 degrees cooler than the stock ATF
WoW that looks like some good shit there. I was contemplating doing RP but have not heard of anyone trying it yet. Matt did you swap your diff fluid yet?
Yo Matt, hey buddy, I hate to tell you this but the entire tranny system holds a tad over 8 quarts. That's a hell of a lot of sucking with your toy. Might I suggest a brake bleeding kit with 5ft of 1/4 hose. That'll speed up the process a tad. Sumtin like a dis
Did the truck require ATF +4? I'd use the Amsoil, but didn't have enough information to go against using ATF +4. I know Amsoil says it's compatible, but I just don't have the personal knowledge.
Boats dont have a drain plug. Go to the nearest boat dealer and get the oil pump. It slides down the dip-stick tube and connects to the battery for an electric pump. They are about $50.
