Project Vortech YSi FTW - Phase 1

I know not all of you will be interested in this, but I wanted to post it here for those who can tolerate a Ford every now and then, and for anyone who like supercharger projects. Vortech will soon be releasing supercharger kits specifically designed for the 5.7L and the 6.1L HEMI, so we'll have a lot more info for you on those!

For those that don't know, we're big into the late model Mustangs as well as Mopar, and have a few ponies in the BMC stables. One of which is "Danni", a 2001 Mustang GT Convertible that we built a 4.6L stroker mod motor w/ racing automatic transmission for, and did a complete summer project nearly 2 years ago.

Danni has been sitting on the lift since I returned from BMC Nationals last October. Right after Nationals, we put 3.73 gears in (removed the 4.10) and re-tuned her for a new # ... 690 rwhp. Then I pretty much parked her in the shop here. She ran fantastic, better than ever, but the Vortech T-trim supercharger was putting out the most boost it could and I wanted more. So, I turned to our great friends at Vortech, and they sent over a polished YSi blower so I could swap out the T-trim.

This past weekend I finally made time to get the YSi put on. I expected some issues with the install of the YSi, since it's a larger blower in physical size, with a larger inlet/outlet, yet I have to say it was pretty smooth. I worked a few hours last Saturday and again on Sunday and with a little help from SRT8U/Kris, giving me that 3rd and 4th hand you sometimes need, lol. I had to shim the supercharger bracket out a bit more than with the T-trim, and get some new silicone hoses and t-clamps. I removed the polished inlet elbow I used to have connecting the boost pipe to the blower ... there isn't room for it anymore. So, for now, a 90* silicone elbow will do the trick.

I still have the Vortech Aftercooler hooked up, but that will all change after the NMCA-FL and NMRA-GA events coming up as I'll be doing Phase 2 of "YSi FTW". I will say, that because the Aftercooler is restrictive past 850hp (and that is Danni's current engine hp) I will be removing the Aftercooler and making something really custom, a one-off, and totally trick. Stay tuned!

I'm not planning to drive her much, mostly to/from the trailer to take her to the two upcoming NMCA/NMRA events, so I am not re-tuning her or putting her on the dyno with this set-up. Once Phase 2 is completed, she will be ready for the dyno and tuning to see what kind of new power she can produce.

Here are some pics as she sits now, in the shop, still missing some body parts, and filthy from sitting. Once I get her cleaned up and put back together, I'll get her outside for some better pics.

Special thanks to Vortech Superchargers and Corsa Exhaust. The two best sponsors and products on the market, and I am proud to have Danni running them both. The best addition to a very "cammy" BMC Performance engine is a Vortech blower and a smooth Corsa rumble (aided by some really free flowing custom exhaust)!

Here are some videos of her at idle, in the shop:

Thanks for your ... uh ... compliment? :what:

I was running 22psi on the T-trim so plan to turn it up closer to the 30 psi limit of the YSi. There is A LOT more coming in the next 2 months ... I just had to get the car running for shows these next 2 weekends so I slapped the blower on for now.
