Ok, for those who don't know what a shifthammer is, it's the paddle shifters on steering wheel to shift the transmission. Hammersports use rings & buttons wrapped around on wheel. But someone at LXforums (rsfdoc) did this mod. He modified it that he put buttons on back of wheels! He called it Stealth Shifthammer. So I copied his cool mod. Here is what I did.... I bought a 300 steering wheel with button controls from ebay. I know it's ugly fake tortoise on top but it's not finished product yet. Forgot to take a pic of buttons I ordered from Mercedes part shop. Anyway, I used a dremel to cut a hole on back of wheel spoke. Also, grind down on metal spoke. Took a while to get it done for 2 holes so buttons can fit in perfectly. Drill a hole for wires. Used wire connectors from button wires. Connect wires from Shifthammer transmitter. Installed buttons! Then I shipped a steering wheel and control buttons to 402 Motoring for paint red. Here's what I got it back. After struggles to remove a center bolt of steering wheel, I found a guy who managed to remove a center bolt. It's extremely difficult to remove because they used lockite on bolt. Anyway I finally installed it!
I swapped Billet Technology satin knobs for black designer knobs. They look much better with my interior.
Very nice work there Mike. I like it a lot....the buttons look like they came out of the factory! How's it feel when you shift now??? Are they positioned just right? Regardless, it looks like a dramatic improvement over the standard shifthammer.
It shifts same as standard but I like to use my middle finger to shift. LOL Yes, it does look factory. Buttons came from Mercedes.
Niiice work man. I see you still have the Dashawk in the same place. I still don't have that pod for my Charger. I might get it this week though lol.
VEry clean install. I like the way the merc=benz shift buttons look. If you remember the part numbers for the MB shift parts, please let us know. What did you use for the rest of the shift kit (Hammers?)
Some have found in ebay. I have been looking for it and got tired of it so I looked around in Mercedes part shops. Found one - costs about $95 each button, costly I know. His email address is [email protected]. The part number for buttons is 2218211751. Be sure you mention part #. As for Hammer kit, I only cut off rings and wired to Mercedes buttons. It's really simple. You can ask Wheelife to order ShiftHammer without rings. I think he will lower the price.
