Jason, to kinda get back on track ... don't know if you've decided anything yet but here's my 2 cents bro ... 1. Suspension. You can ask Rick, I have a completely different opinion on the coilover kit than everyone else ... I don't like it, or at least the Mopar one especially considering the cost. Couple things. One, I'm in the minority here when I say this (and it may get me shot, lol :bag but I think our stock suspension/tires are great. Perfect trade off on handling vs. ride. I can cruise to Vegas in smooth, quiet peace and yet still hang right on the rear bumper of a friends modded S2000 in the twisties!! How many cars can do that?!?! Two, imo the ride is just too harsh with the coilover kit for a daily driver. Yea I'm getting older and a bit less tolerant but for me it's too hard. Three, it's a lot of cash, one of the most expensive things to do and I don't believe the handling improved that much to justify it. If you're on a budget like the rest of us with families then I wouldn't do it. 2. Power. I'm a big supercharger fan. Had one for years now on my Saleen Mustang and there's nothing quite like a blower to get you going, lol, ask Ron!! The sound, the feel, it's ... AWESOME!! I would go that route, plus I'm not a fan of tearing apart the engine to do heads and cam. It's expensive and not as much of a hp gain. 3. Tires (er, tyres). Again I'm in the minority here but I'm a big fan of our stock F1s bag. Over the years I've been through just about every type of tire out there for my Mustang (Mich, Pirelli, BFG, Yoko, Goodyear, etc.) and I have to say our F1s (which I've never had before) are surprisingly good. They stick great, are AWESOME in the rain yet give a smooth and very quiet ride ESPECIALLY for 20 inchers!! There's my 2 cents. I'd forget the suspension and get the I-Charger. Then go maybe with headers and hi flow cats and a custom tune for sure, that should be plenty fast enough for you. And just get the Vreds, otherwise there's no telling what Rick will do to you if you don't, lol! :domotwak:
Thanks for your honest opinions. The suspension: I've ridden in Rick's car dozens of times, and his ride, IMO is improved over stock. But, that's my opinion. Not necessarily a fact. Regardless, I may have a relatively cheaper hookup on some used coilovers. MAY have. Blower: I know. I know. I want it bad. Dam it... I need more money!
I know Jason, this is what I just don't get. What's wrong with me, or my car?!?! I read what everyone says and I just don't see it that way, I don't get it. The ride is waaaaaaaay harsher and it really doesn't handle much better with coilovers (maybe gripier tires, er tyres, would help). 2 things possibly, maybe the Mags are different somehow than the Chargers (not likely) or maybe the Mopar kit is just different than the KW one even though it's made by KW (more likely but still). I really wish someone would help straighten me out on all this. :bag:
Maybe its all perspective. Rick has the sways too... maybe that helps in stiffening the chassis?!?! I don't know.
What I'm thinking RIGHT now, at THIS moment (being realistic): 1. Suspension. KWv1 & Hotchkis 2. Magnaflow High Flow Cats 3. Intake work 4. CMR tune 5. Wheels: Chromed OEM's & widen the rears to accommodate a 295+ tire. Who in SOCAL could I trust to widen my rears (like Legmaker had done in Florida)?!?! Maarten has a guy to do the chrome in LA...
Nope. Sways will do nothing for the chassis. The sway bar is mounted on the car with bushings. That means it will swing freely. It's bow shaped and connected to the (indirectly) hubs. If one wheel moves up WITHOUT the other wheel moving up it twists the bar. There's resistance to that. It's a torsion bar. If BOTH wheels move up there is no resistance at all. Only in the case of one wheel hitting a bump by itself could the sway bar effect the stiffness/harshness of the ride and then it would be no stiffer/harsher than both wheels hitting the same bump if it extended across the road.
Don't get me wrong... that would be #1... just don't know if I could pull it off or not... with or without the wife's blessing... I'm sure as hell gonna try though!!! Thanks Dave for the explanation... and for making me look dumber than usual! :chair:
