Grm, way back when I was involved with BAGNET here in the bay area. I was also testing out new technologies for telecommuting so I was the one responsible for getting the fiber hookup into HP. They were contracting some fiber installation company from up in northern CA I think. Spent a couple of weeks BSing with those guys while they ran it down the street, onto the site and through the buildings. haha, ended up with SMDS to my desk. Lots of stories of jobs pulling fiber trunks over the mountains and stuff. Best part was the bore they ran under the street. They took about 1/2 hour to line it up and let it go. I was wondering how they know it's going ok. Guy said they surveyed pretty well and in town and everything they just shoot an unmonitored one. Dig hole on this side, dig hole on other side, shoot the bore. Said they go pretty straight unless they hit a large rock or something. He said if it comes up though the middle of the street you know it didn't go well and that it's going to cost a whole lot of money ... You do that kind of stuff?
How funny, Were recableing the IRS here in Utah 262 locations and each workstation gets 3 cat 5e and 1 single mode fiber. Your tax dollars well spent!!!
