Theres a hell of lot more camaro owners past and present that will buy one over the challenger. Not to mention Chevrolet will make more of them than Dodge will make challengers.
The funny thing about the debate between the Chally and Camaro is: It seems that the majority of Mopar guys like the Camaro better, but if you visit the ls1tech site. Those GM guys are liking the the Chally over their own, by far. My vote is for the Chally. I can't stand the front end of the Camaro, Looks like you could go spear fishing with that damn thing. Talk about pointy.
The first time I glanced at the rear end, all I could think is, "wow... round out those taillights and you've got the rear end from the Vette." Or at least a Vette rear end halfway through the assembly line. It's not a horrific looking car. It's just not something I'd be terribly interested in.
i agree with you guys i saw the back end and it looks alot like the 'vette but i like the front end personally i would drive either one. both are very different looking then there predecessers
Just want to be clear...I like those pics of the new Camaro...it's different. I wouldn't blow my wad too soon though Steve...the parts are already there to go 10's and with all the R&D that AM companies have devoted to the 6.1 on a few short years...I don't see them going the way of the Dodo bird in the next 5 years. You're kidding right? You don't like the front end of the Challenger? That's retro-styled muscle my friend...true to it's roots and another reason for it to be a huge collector car one day. The new Camaro? Not so much. You're opinion though, but I love the Challenger's front end. The fact that the Challenger still has a 6.1 takes away from the other fact that it will come with the 6spd and nicer gear. Where did you get this information bro? The new Hemi was marvelled at for it's efficiency with regards to fuel economy, emissions output, smoothness, and a host of other things...it is a far cry from other pushrod V8's in and around the same price range that came out at that time. Your Hemi isn't too bad if you lay off the go-pedal...which we know isn't possible...but comparatively speaking, what other 6.1L (or thereabouts) is more efficient? The new 5.7L Hemi (which I have driven) has variable valve technology and makes more power (380hp), uses less fuel and is smoother all around... The biggest thing I am not enthused with about the new Challenger is that it should have been put on a diet before it's production. If it was even 300-400lbs lighter...we wouldn't be having this discussion. Mopar 4eva bitches!! hahahahahahahahaaahahaa!
I am somewhat interested in why it's sitting up so high in the front.... 6cyl test mule maybe??? Also, I do love how car companies leak these pictures out (come-on, you can't tell me these were taken by some dude that just "happened" across these guys. :bigwink: )
its crap...just like i expected... i can take a big steaming pile of muschy oop: and shape it with my eyes closed to get a better looking car than that so in essence what i am saying is that i do not enjoy the new Camaro...
Ed Zachary! And... with all of the test points, and extra crap on there, this may not even be the final product. They disguise things until the last minute when they can. That rear end may not be the one that you see go into production. (Even though I don't think it's that bad.) I was a Chevy man before I bought my '01 Ram, and I really like my Dodge trucks! But that Camaro is Hot! (I guess it helps that my dream car is a '67 Camaro.) I think it looks strong, like the late 60's models did! JMO
I agree, that is exactly what it looks like to me too, great analogy. I like the ass end too. It is the side view of the car from the beginning of the front door and all the way back that looks bad to me. Maybe this is not the final look for the car?
The Camaro is ugly to me. I'm a F-body guy and I feel this car isn't going last long. Pontiac really needs to come back with the Firebird again but they are too busy wasting their time with Australian cars like the G8 that not that impressive to me either. They sold more T/A's then Camaro's back in the day. I know my year they sold a little over 454,000 Firebirds in '79.
having the car just worries me i guess. it seems like we are on the way out. its not aggressive at all imho. very boring through and through. i love the side and the rear though. how do you figure it to be a collector car? it will be built in canada right? who wants to pay top dollar for a US car that was built in another country? the 6.1 gets what high of 20 mpg real world on the highway and around 15-18 real world in the city? compare that to the 6.0 from chevy. is there really any comparison? look at the new ls7, 500 hp and 28+mpg on the highway real world. not to mention the fact that these cars will most likely employ flex fuel and the 6.1 will not. the camaro will also likely be a fatass. im sure it has to do with new car technology, ride, safety, etc that these cars are held to. even imports are getting heavy. the new g37 that ive been looking at weighs in at over 3600lbs.
And this sucks, but the SRT8's do 'feel' and drive like pretty stable vehicles. I feel pretty safe in this thing..moreso than other cars in the past. Must have something to do with it's tank-like specs lol.
no doubt, its built like a tank. thats one of the reasons i like driving it in the city. i know even if i get hit by a trolley, ill be reasonably safe.
Haha. True dat. My insurance guy told me his elderly mother was involved in a bad accident in 2005, recovered, and needed a new car. He looked up crash test ratings and stuff and decided to go with a Charger (probably a V6)...and I guess she loves it..she's 80 years old!!!!!!!! :stars: Nothing like sitting back and having a drink out on a patio only to see 2 ton missile coming at you because of a really old person stroking out behind the wheel. lol. Wonder why they all prefer big ass cars? Whenever I see a Buick, a Cadillac, Lincoln, or even a Minivan up in front of me...I switch lanes because chances are it's either a really old person or a soccer mom...no patience for that.
kicker is they dont care about dying. thats what scares the piss outta me. i avoid them like the plague.
Forget what comedian said this, but you'd think with what little time they have left, they'd want to speed everywhere they go lol. Instead they choose to drive me nuts..especially on the expressway or in rush hour. I avoid them any way possible...that's why I'm so happy in the winter knowing that most of them will be Florida or Arizona for the next 6 mths lol.
haha, that does make sense. it never really gets cold enough for the old buzzards around here. all they do is multiply.
