After reading for about 3 hours today trying to decide what is exactly the best size to go with on the Toyo Proxe S/T for tire replacement. 265/50,295/45 just dont look right on the Jeep kinda looks more off road than sporty I'm not a big fan of the tall sidewall. 275/40,315/35 look great but there is alot of space showing in the wheel liner area. The Vredesteins looks cool but I use by Jeep for work and sometimes on gravel roads plus they have not been out for a long time. Any suggestions. Now to pick out new rotors and pads, joy!!!
i have 275/40 and 315/35 i love the ride, and plus you get that curb protection...not that i hit any but you never know..
Get the proxes or vreds in 275/315. You wont regret it and once the Eibach kit comes out it will look sick.
Wade, Bro I hear you! Everyone has their opinion........Research the chit out of it, test drive'em if possible on someone else's ride and try to see how they look on your ride, "FIRST"! The most important thing is do, "YOU LIKE THEM"! Meaning whatever you buy. I'm looking at getting some new tires and I loved everyone's input. I even talked to several different tire shops, people who build show cars and R-N-D people from tire corporations via friends. I was surprised at the wide range of, "DO'S & DONT'S"! It was unbelieveable. Then their is a calculation that will tell you this and that. The thing that sucks is you won't know until it is on your ride and you drive it, "PERIOD" IMO. :doh: Good luck, I'm still dealing with it. It has been about a month or alittle longer.
I don't want to introduce any doubts here after it sounds like you're almost there, but I feel obligated to tell you that Mother Mopar Performance never quite got their show car together. They talked someone into buffing out one of the larger scratches but that's about as far as it went.
Yeah I read just about every SRT site the argument of going to a 315 on our wheels being to wide vs. warranty, rubbing, etc.. I know it was mentioned that there was a loss of acceleration with the higher profile tire but ride was smoother, IDK. I want to do this all at the same time, rotors, pads, wheels, braided lines and bwoody sway links trying to get all this done before the SRT experience
You know what size I'm running, As Blown-WK stated above, once the Eibach kit goes on.............oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh baby!!!! Go with your gut, too often we don't listen to that little voice, I have been doing the George Kastanza (Seinfield) episode that "I do everything the opposite of what I would normally do" and the results have been awesome to say the least...........the first opposite choice was purchasing the jeep!:thumb2:
I'm just about ready to re-order the 275- 315 combo. Last year I did get the Michelin Diamaris 275/315 but they did not hook well on launch, everything else was fine, but I returned them. Now, even if everybody seems to like the Toyos or Vreds, I'm not a fan of those thread design and will probably order Michelin Latitude HP as per Builder Bill's choice, hoping they stick.
Called my local Toyo dealer and he can get met the 275/40,315/35 for $750.00 so I went ahead and ordered those and for a total of $1,100 they will install the new rotors, pads and tires, not too bad.
Its all personal choice, based upon proven results, I suppose. I must say, however, that the Vredestreins have received nothing but top-notch reviews from everyone that has owned or driven in a vehicle so equipped. Remember, there tires were made specifically for performance SUVs... even says SUV on the sidewall. Size/fitment on a GCSRT8, I have no idea. They're not cheap, but awesome tires. I believe for our LX's 4 275's go for around $800.
I put the 315 / 275 toyo proxes s/t's on about two weeks ago and the improvement in ride smoothness is dramatic, and they grip great. . . already drove them through two (minor) snowfalls, with no problems! Steve
