http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11980 http://www. cherokee srt8 .com/forums/show thread.php?t=11980 remove spaces if the first one doesn't work. Some interesting discussion got started on another board. Thought I would get some thoughts from the bright minds over here.
It may not be the best place for the cats but it has nothing to do with the transmission failures. I would think owner operator habits contributed more to the tranny failures then cat location. Im the second longest running KOOKS header customer. Zero problems. And there hi flow cats which means they dont get as hot as the stock cats.
IDK, it's all in theory anyway, just Jet Hot Coat the cats or put Amsoil in the tranny should drop the temps by 80 degress, I wish PML would come out with their tranny pan for the Jeep with that combo I dropped almost 100 degrees in the tranny temp alone
That's good to know. Filtering links is very gay. They don't do that on the Corvette Forum or on LS1 Tech and those sights are much bigger than these little ones that do.
All he needed at the end of that vid was Burt Reynolds laugh like he does on Smokey and the Bandit, CLASSIC!!!
With a proven product as Kooks, and, no known failures, less the O/P's "secret tranny shops", this posting is not only premature, but a bit irresponsible, IMHO. I just relooked at the original thread. You, the O/P, Patrick, seem to be joining forums to spread this bullshit. So, to recap: 1-Kooks is a well known and respected vendor. 2-The product in question is an existing unit installed on various other peoples trucks with no ill effect. 3-You "source" is a ghost, and- 4-You join forums to spread the disease. I smell a troll....
We couldn't agree more Patrick. It is NOT like the forums are some sort of Top Secret project... lol Damn, the T/A was flying brotha. I've done 160 in a 3/4 mile stretch in the Charger. Nice closed course by the way.
Well you pretty much said what I said in my first post, though be it you did it more lively but like I said this is all in THEORY!!! there is no way to prove something like that unless you run a tranny temp guage and monitor it and can see that the cat is causing a very large increase in tranny temp that could cause tranny damage or clutch failure. Hopefully he meant this as just a heads up and to "KEEP AN EYE" on it if you have this particular setup, he did have "Possible" in his topic starter. Also, like I said there are preventatives that could be done to help reduce the heat. I dont think he is a troll as he and BTLFED have met up in San Antonio.
You can smell all you want, but if you knew me or my reputation from the LS1 boards you would know that label doesn't apply with me. My sources are not ghosts nor is my intent to flame Kooks. These vendors don't want to get in hot water with Kooks. For me, I'm just looking for the best header. I have the means to buy the best and it does not benefit me to ride any manufacturer's sack. I've been alerted by some concerned vendors and I'm just passing on information.
Judging by your TA performance no resume is needed for me. Have you looked at Stainless works, I hear they are just as good and would be the ones I would buy. http://www.stainlessworks.net/cart/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=Jeep
I've been looking at the Kooks, the Stainless Works and the American Racing. I hope to make up my mind in time to have something installed before the Texas Mile on March 29-30th. Yes, I'm going to take the Jeep down the mile. Won't be 180+ like in the TA, but I hope to be deep into the 140s. I think bone stock the GC SRT8s run 138 mph in the standing mile.
No Idea, I've hit 160 but have no idea how long it took for me to get there, good luck on whatever you chose and if you find a good installer in your area let me know those are rare for the Jeep and Headers
When I purchased mine, Kooks recommended that I NOT Jet the cats. Don't know why for sure, but it was their recommondation FWIW.
As a prior Kooks customer (and yes, I Jet Hot coated my mids and cats), on my 06 GTO without issues, I went with SW this time. I don't see the tranny issues that may or may not contribute to problems, the fact of the matter is that the mids (not headers), and the placement of the cats, is a poor design. There is no reason for that cat to reside where it does. And folks that have indicated not having any problems, I'd be interested in how many miles they have run. After someone tells me that they have 30K+ miles without issues, I'd feel better. It comes down to the placement of the cats themselves, not header design - which is, IMO, the best design and the best collector currently offered. Just my 02 cents.
I have only about 8k on my Kooks and I have not noticed any noticible difference in transmition temps based off he DashHawk. It has been winter for the last 6k, but still nothing noticible in stop and go traffic. I for one would like to see some proof to the claims.
