    I recently purchased a Sony-Ericsson M600i.
I received the phone today, and everything works fine except for the front speaker (the one you hold to your ear).

I've been into the service menu and tried the speaker tests. Rear works fine; front has zero sound.
    (Headset works OK too)

It's a great phone, and suits my needs perfectly....but I need for that front speaker to work.

Aside from tearing the phone apart and replacing the speaker, anyone know of any other 'fixes' for the phone?
    I've been Google'ing for about 6 hours....nothing.

    TIA

(Stupid question... as I know there is a reason you didn't do this... ) But, if it's BROKEN, why didn't you send it back or exchange it for a new one???

    1. The M600i was never marketed in the US (Only Europe, pretty much).
    2. The phone was purchased via a private party.
    3. The person said the phone worked perfectly in the listing.
    4. I've had it less than 24 hours, and wanted to see if it was a software/firmware issue that could easily be repaired/adjusted/updated before I sent it back to the seller.
    5. I've been looking for one of these for 3 months and finally found one that didn't get sniped from me.

I talked to Sony-Ericsson's US Service Center today.
They said, "We have a phone called an M600i?"
That pretty much sealed the deal right there.

I called the UK Svc. Ctr. and waited on hold for 30 minutes before bailing (I'm a sucker for that sultry UK chick accent).

Anyone want to get in on this?

    Thanks Scott!
I'll put up a post there and see WTF.

From further research, it looks like the phone only has one physical speaker. I'm not 100% on this, but it's kind of odd if it's true.

I shined a small LED flashlight into the earpiece hole to see if there were any visible problems. Looks like it's empty. All I can see is PCB board behind there...and maybe some sort of IR transceiver.

The phone can't just power on and work, right?

For grins, I just removed the covers off the phone and had a quick look around.

Am I on crack, or is it totally missing the earpiece speaker?!!!?

    WTF?

DISCLAIMER: No service manual was used to figure out how to take the covers off.

Yeah, but my spelling kicks ass.
YOU'RE = conjunction for 'you are'.
    You're welcome.

Sorry for the late reply. I was over on NHL.com checking out video of SUPER JOE's GAME-WINNER in the shoot-out last night, and then Svatos tickling the twine as well.
    Did you say something?

I shined the light in there to see if there were obstructions or ear wax or visible disconnections....PRIOR to opening up the phone.
Believe it or not, I'd rather NOT open stuff up if I don't have to.

I work for Tmobile Tech support and am a Windows Mobile Geek. It appears that you are missing the speaker portion unless in under the "3" there. But I cant really say ive ever dealt with this phone specifically. I mostly just sit on my hump and play with my Wing all day.
    LOL

    Thanks Mike!
I'm one of those that pays your salary...heh heh. We've been with T-Mobile for almost a decade now. Great service....lousy reception. LOL
(At my desk, I have 1 bar or less; 10' away from my desk I get 5 bars. I wish I were kidding.)

The forum that Ntw0rk pointed me to has been awesome. The guy over there confirmed that I'm not on the crack and that the phone is indeed missing the earpiece speaker.
They suspect that the original owner replaced the case. The earpiece speaker is glued into the OEM case, so the owner just didn't detach it and put it in the new case.

New speaker is less that $10, and they're pretty easy to attach/re-attach.

Still not sure how I'm going to deal with the seller.
