So earlier tonight I hit a MASSIVE pothole, and upon impact heard an immense amount of hissing. Within about 10 seconds, my worst prediction came true....left rear had 0 PSI. Quickly stopped at the first gas station, tried to put in air, but it was -20 with the wind chill and I was too damn cold to wait for it. Drove the 5 miles back home at about 30 the whole way, and now I dont know what happened. Dont think I blew out the tire, just the bead, but wondering if I can just refill the tire or what.... I work at a dealership about 7 miles from my house, so first thing in the morning Im gonna take it into service. What do you guys think? Car/Tires have about 20K on them, still have tread, but is it safe to replace just the one tire with the AWD or would I need to replace all 4 or just the 2 rear? I'm confused!! Thanks, John
You can replace just one. Personally I'd ditch the run flats if you have them. Very spendy, not to mention heavy.
agreed, but I'm broke right now unfortunately. I guess it will depend on how much one will be to replace vs what my cost would be on something else. I'm planning on getting the Toyo Proxes ST1 in the 315-35 and 275/40 combo.......
If your gonna go with all four get the Toyos bro....Without knowing your driving style, one cant assume what your tires look like. Personally I would replace 2 or buy all Toyos....
If you drove 30 mph for 5 miles with a tire that was off the bead you've likely done some damage. I don't have a lot of experience with run flats but I have the impression that the idea is not so much to save the tire but to get you somewhere without the car becomming unmoveable. At least I'd have it unmounted and inspected for obvious damage. Have them show you then you can make your own decision. ...risk is that they refuse to remount it if that's your choice.
By the way. It came up at the last engineer chat. Your AWD system will tolerate up to a 5% tire size difference front to back. No one asked about on the same axle:unsure:
you could always take a picture of your pothole and a bill for the new tire and try to get it back with your state. You pay taxes
tried that with Chicago and got a big hell no from them. Bent 2 19's on my TL, wheels were discontinued so I had to buy 4 new rims, have the tires mounted/balanced and chicago sent me a letter back saying "we are not an insurance company"......what a fricken joke!
Man I'm sorry to hear this given your financial status you do whats best for you right not and get it fixed/replaced. I would file a claim with your insurance company if its a state maintained road they are liable same for city and county roads, let your insurance company fight it out thats what you pay your premiums for but for right now take care of the Jeep, take pics and keep all of your receipts on hand just glad it did not cause you to wreck. Let us know how it turns out. I've seen some of your pics and they are amazing so I know you can get some good pics of the pothole and damage.
well, replacing all 4. 2 rear goodyears would be about 600 + mount and balance. 4 Toyo Proxes ST 315/35 and 275/40 fronts are costing me $800 including mount and balance!!!!
Hey PLEASE let me know what you think about those tires compared to the stock ones, should be my next purchase. Hopefully they will cut down on the road noise
I have the proxie S/T's on my Hemi and love them! i went with 305/50/20 and on my 4X4 truck they are sweet!
If you get them I would not go with a stagerd fitment like he did you cant rotate them! they are directional so you will have to have them re mounted every 5,000 Miles? not me most shops charge over $20 per wheel for wheels 20 and up!
we can't rotate our tires anyway, the fronts come smaller than the rears STOCK is FRONT: 255/45 REAR: 285/40
Toyos are awesome tires, but in the winter they suck. They are definitely not made for ice and snow, but then again the stockers werent that great either... I would still suggest getting the Proxes if you get snow, but just understand that you are going to have to drive differently and get used to the less traction. In the summer months they hook up 100% better than the EMT's
Your "worst prediction"? I'd say mine is suspension problems and when i lost control of my chrysler i worst prediction came true and the suspension was never the same again... A rim and tire are nothin big...
Well, after a few days with the Toyo's, Im kind of upset I didnt switch sooner!!! The ride is 110% smoother, quieter, and they handle great so far (conisdering it's 20* out). Well worth every penny spent!!! Thanks for all the help guys! BTW: Alignment was fine, and so was the rim. I think the runflat is what saved me!!!
Excellent news bud, I knew you would be happy and thanks for helping me make my next tire decision. Hey since your the photo expert can you get me a good pic of the tire, like the front tire turned in so I can see the tread pattern. THANKS
