Did you check the gap when you pulled the plugs?

There was this one dude at an Advanced Auto that sounds like the guy you were dealing with. He swore by his heart that I should run a platinum plug and started getting all defensive to me asking how a turbo works and how if you are running higher octane like 91 you need a hotter plug to burn the fuel.. blah blah blah. And that the Autolite is an OEM plug. I posted it on srtforums last year. I ended up walking out the store.

i pulled them out and re-gapped them at .037. car seems to run better but the wifey is givin me crap about playin with the car bein v-day and all. will play more with it later tonight when we go out. btw keep gettin overboost code when im only hittin 15psi i thought that i read somewhere that if you remove the red line that goes from the selonoid to the intake mani that it would eliminate that code. the guys at autozone are gettin tired of me stoppin in and gettin it checked/cleared.
any input would be greatly appreciated

I would guess that it is a ptb code. Do you know how to pull the code without using a scanner using 3 flicks of the key?

I believe the fix you are talking about it the tip mod. Which means that you remove the red line and cap it and also poke a very tiny hole in the white line immediately before the tip sensor.

just got back from takin it out for dinner and no more miss fire and no more full boost miss, running alot better no dont know how to remove the code other than to disconnect the battery or use a reader to clear it. will try that mod later tonight or early in the mornin. what exactly does it do??? just keep the pcm from seeing boost over stock?? sorry so many ?'s still tryin to learn all the little things about our cars while not blowing it up lol

Well I got that code too when I had my vac ines re-routed so my WGA controlled the boost not the ECU. I had the Slowboy WGA and had horrible PTB, but that was due to the fact I didn't know how to drive the car with PTB... I too got the 1187 code which is an overboost code. The computer senses something isn't working right and puts the car in limp mode, you won't be able to boost past 10 psi. I even reset the battery and the code popped up after about 30 minutes of driving and I never went into boost that day... Well anyways I plugged the red line back in and the white line and got no more code... I ended up rerouting my vac lines back to stock and got a Stage 1 ecu.

In essence you have a controlled boost leak before the tip sensor so its sees less boost than what is being pushed in to the manifold. The s1 ecu would help alot as far as alleviating the ptb and other overboost codes but you have to learn to drive the car much differently no matter what you do.

You are correct the only way to remove it is to disconnect the battery or use a scanner to clear it (aeroforce scan gauge FTW). If you get it again I would see if you can get the code number just to make sure its what you suspect it is.
