Markus, There are two things. Asymmetric -- means that one side of the tire is different than the other (inside/outside). Most often it's the tread design and/or it could be the sidewalls or rubber composition. They will be marked. Most often with "outside" on one side meaning that it faces outside when mounted on the car. Directional -- Almost always the tread design. Means that the tire is designed to rotate in one direction when the car is moving forward. Almost invariably marked with an arrow or something that looks like one. So. If they're asymmetric but not directional you can move a tire from one side of the car to the other without re-mounting it. If they're directional then you would have to re-mount the tire to move it to the other side of the car. If they're both asymmetric and directional then they would be specifically for the right or left side of the car and you could not move them to the other side even if re-mounted.
With asymetric, like you have, the outside is marked to be outside, the way you have it. Usually the outer blocks help enhance handling and the inner provide water dispersion and comfort etc... Directional tires would be marked left & right.

alright guys. sorry im such an idiot so please bear with my ignorance. its dark out and i used a cell phone to light it up, saw nothing indicating left or right. thats not to say its not there, i just couldnt see it. HOWEVER, comma, pause for effect, that being said my tires are doing this l//l l//l and both of them are clearly marked with the outside facing the outside. STILL waiting to hear back from kumho. if it takes me a couple days to get this resolved, will it be detremental to my car?
No. No matter what it's not going to hurt anything unless you drive thousands of miles on them. They may perform badly if you do some aggressive maneuvering or if you drive in the rain. Often directional tires are designed that way to channel water from under the tire. Run backwards they are going to do the opposite and you're going to be hydroplaning really easily. The tire wouldn't have to be marked "left" or "right". It would be the same thing if they were marked "outside" AND had an arrow indicating direction.
i've upgraded to a AN/PAS-13 thermal imaging system, however its mounted to my McMillan .50 cal. So far I've emailed and called. From what you guys are telling me I've got 2 left tires. Tirerack.com needs to unf**k my situation.
Like we figured on the other thread I think you're fine. If you look at the blowup pic of those on tirerack.com you can see the "outside" and there aren't any directional markings. So asymmetric but NOT directional. By the way. It's not easy to find tires that are both asymmetric and directional. Usually the exotics. found a few (I don't think any come in our size) Kumho Victoracer V700 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Pirelli PZero Corsa
