I was the 1st to get double gaskets. I was getting vacuum leaks, and going limp. LOL

    No issues since.

OK, who will be the 1st.

nah, just "grapevine" talk...... with their good reputation, i am quite sure they are just being overly critical from a design element to ensure these things live up to the hype. can't blame them really, just wish they would get them released so i can get some!!!! hahahaaha

as for the decorations..... like i said in a past response, the weekend after turkey day is the time...... until then, sit tight brudda!!! hahahaha

The last I heard from Heidi, these spacers should be available by X-MAS.

    Spacers Dont Cause Oil!!!

QUOTE=Cam;4724]Leaks still exist. But for the most part, everyone has gotten a handle on it. All anyone has to do is pull the manifold and take a look at thier heads, that tends to tell the story pretty good. I know for a fact a local gent who shall remain nameless (unless he would like to step up) just had his manifold yanked and she was a puker.[/QUOTE]

The oil around the manifold and head port is due to the oil coming from the Positive Crankcase Ventilation System. That oil is blowby and has nothing to do with the phenolic spacers.:wallbash: If you install an oil seperator/catch can you will eliminate 80% of the problem.

Not to be controversial but the point of the catch can is have the hot oil mist go through a screen and ever so slightly cool allowing the gas to become liquid, and the the heavier oil can drop and the vacuum continue on. The Billet Tech catch can is not designed in this method. It uses the same chamber to filter and return the air. Other more efficient designs such as the Elite or AMW have two seperate chambers that allow the oil to seperate and not go into the manifold.

Also Billet Tech provides their kit with HEATER HOSE, this type hose will heat and collapse. Hi grade FUEL LINE hose MUST be used.

As far as I know, Billet Tech now includes fuel line instead of heater hose due to hose collapse by some early adopters. The design of the Billet Tech catch can is very sound. It uses both a mesh type and vane type coalescer where liquid droplets (oil) can aggregate and then fall out of the vapor stream due to their now heavier weight. Here is more on the principle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demister_(Vapor)

Exactly..All I know is it catches the oil before it returns to the manifold.
And yes they use a different hose now.Honestly if it didnt come with the hose it wouldnt matter to me.Matter of fact I dont think any other brand comes with hose either. You would think they would for the $$ they charger.JMO..

FYI.The can works great on GTOs and Mustangs too.. As far as the spacersThere still working on a few things along with all the other products they do as well. There just juggling..lol
Way more balls then arms..Be on the look out for some killer fuel rails as well.
But you didnt hear that from me ;)

There not Billet.the name of the Company that is in the process of making a phenolic"Type" spacer is called Billet Technologies..
Check them out at billettechnologies.com They make some cool products

I just checked my BT can for the first time and it was 1/4 to 1/3 full of oil so it works. As to how efficient it is verses other designs I can't say. It is damn pretty though...

    Seperate Chambers

I just took Billet Tech apart 3 weeks ago. The owner had just received it. It had heater hose with the kit. Also I took it apart, they missed the boat in functionality for the bling.

The vacuum goes in and returns from the same chamber! All that seperates the two ports is a steel wool looking material in the same chamber.

    http://www.eliteengineeringusa.com/More_Catch_Can_pics.html
    http://www.accmachtech.com/catchcans.asp

This model seperates the oil filtering chamber from the oil return chamber[
The top fitting is connected to the PCV valve. The oil laden air enters and the "heavies" are caught in the stainless mesh

The oil is trapped and falls to the bottom of the collector chamber.....the air continues on to the port above the throttle body, however as the picture shows, the returning vacuum fitting/signal is isolated from the filtering mesh chamber. This is a more efficient way to allow the "heavy" oil to seperate out.

So the path of travel is.... it goes in from the top, passes through the filter......must travel down (the heavies fall) then back up on its way to the manifold via the port/fitting located on the side.

    Stanko,

Did you miss the big divider in between the two fittings of the Billet Tech can? There are 2 distinctly different chambers in the top. An "in" chamger where the air/oil mix enters then hits all the steel wool and dividing wall, the air then has to make a 90 degree down turn, under the divider and then back up into the return fitting - just like the red can above. I don't see the issue.

not to sound like a total retard......scott and ron, keep the "special" comments out!!!..... what is the downfall of not having a catch can installed????? what is the biggest impact on performance. very curious to know.... thanks guys!!!

Some have found it rather wet/damp with oil on the inside when removing their manifolds. The idea with the pcv is to burn the oil vapors and blow-by gasses. It probably shouldn't be condensing out in the manifold. Seems that happens more in some motors than others. The LS2 for example? So... eventually that condensed oil has to go somewhere or just get turned into build-up (I don't think anybody has found any evidence of build-up?). Probably not helpful when/if liquid oil runs down into the combustion chamber and the vaporized oil is probably not helping the A/F mix. Performance? unknown. Engine longevity/long term maintenance? probably a good idea. I'm collecting a couple of tablespoons every tank or so of gas with (mostly) moderate in town driving. I think you can expect more with harder driving.

    Chris,

I was amazed at all the oil that was in my intake manifold when I removed it for polishing. Installing the B/T catch can has solved the problem, and I think she runs a little stronger.

more than you ever wanted to know..

The PCV system has been around in it's current form for about oh.... I guess forever. It's basicly there to keep pressure from building up inside the engine and to give exit to condinsation burn off. There are a few of us around that remember what a "draft tube" is. The only reason it is ported back to the engine is because there is HC in the crankcase vapor and the tree huggers don't like HC so the OEM's had to put in a check value and stuffed a fitting in a low pressure area (intake) so this HC would get burned off in combustion.

anyhow.. I don't think it's surprising that our engine and others like the LSx are sending a lot of oil into the intake. Modern engines are running a lot lighter weight of oil, in hotter running engines, turning at a lot higher rpm than was ever imagined when the pcv value was designed. All this is a perfect formula if you want to atomize the oil as much as possible..
The location of the value is probably determined by the distance to the inlet so the hose is as cheap as possible, actual performance of the system not a factor. If we loose some oil between changes and have blue smoke on startup once in while the dealers can tell us it's normal rather than sending the money engineering a better system to trap the oil as we are doing.
Whether it's causes drivability issues as you get up in miles or just a nuisance you can't see, the more oil you keep out of your intake the better.
