Hemiguy made some very bold statements. I wonder who he is and what his agenda might be? Most everything he stated had already been addressed. I addressed HPP cam and heads, and PPP getting the tune early.
As for valve train issues, I'm aware of a couple companies having issues on their production heads.
We are very appreciative of HoP's efforts to do this test. Advertising has nothing to do with this test. There may be better heads out there, or not even developed yet. Who knows. This is alot of work, and HoP has nothing to gain by fudging the outcome.
CFM flow rates only tell part of the story. Port velocity is another. The most flow doesn't allways mean the most HP.

Improper heat treat to the valve tips causing the tips to wear. The valve manufacturer has admitted fault and is making the necessary changes to their process. The spring, retainer and lock assembly were not the issue. Neither was the cylinder head machining. This was strictly a valve manufacturer error and had they "done their homework", it would never have been an issue. Currently, the problem has been solved for all cylinder heads using this valve manufacturer.

    Cam, look in my signature.

I had figured out the valve tips where wearing a few posts ago.

I wonder in the valve mfg is going to help with cost of fixing all the cars using their defective valves. Doubt it. They'll probably just give everyone new valves, no labor.

Ed has forgotten more about engines than most will ever know. He's been spec'ing cams/top ends/converters for chevys for years.

Racing parts are not OEM so whatever the valve manufacturer decides to do, it is at their own descretion. Whatever they do, they do! There is no "limited lifetime warranty" on racing parts last time I checked.

BTW, the comments regarding valve tips in my previous post are about heads I am familiar with. The other issues HoP presented, such as retainer and lock problems, were from products I have not worked with. Sorry for the confusion.

off topic: Got the Email Hal. I'll call later.

Exactly, enough of the Mission Impossible crap. People who own these products should know the truth. Whether I'm included in that group or not. I'm extremely happy with my purchase. Its like some are trying to be hush-hush about something. Really irritating b/c this is exactly why we have these forums.

If you have "excessive valve train noise" then you need to take a look at your "exhaust" valves. The valves in question are from a company named REV or Racing Engine Valves. Apparently there was a "bad batch" of valves that did not get heat treated like they where supposed to. As to the company that supplies these heads and is fixing the problem thankyou. ET Performance who does the heads that are sold to Mopar and PPP had defective valves that we know of. Chris had their heads on his car and had the failures within 2,000 miles. The retainer issue is from the PR&D heads and does present it's own problems and Stu at the time I told him knew about it and is coming up with a solution. i know first hand that Andy is on this problem and is taking care of his customers with no questions. Stu I don't know, but I'm sure he will as well. This is one of the reasons why we at HoP Racing elected to do this test. Not only is it a performance test, but it's also a test to see how well the quality of each head supplier or manufacturer puts in to there work. Your not just buying a set of heads for performance gains but your buying longevity as well, if they don't last your not going to get your expected power output. Now we need to finish up with the last set of heads so we can close this chapter, we felt it was necessary to release this info because of the nature or severity that this issue can have if it goes unchecked. Again, thankyou to the vendors for stepping up with this issue and handling it.

Josh, thank you for spelling it out. Much better.

Now we have to figure out what "excessive" really is. Seriously, I'm not mocking you. Can't really hear it in typing, ya know? LOL

I can certainly hear my valves, but I don't think its excessive. But also don't know what to compare it to.

Thanks for telling everyone the straight truth Josh. Any comments about the quality of machining, valve heights, coil-bind, etc.?

Our valve issues were limited to 7 sets of heads and all of those customers have been notified and are being taken care of as we speak. Any vendor using those valves (most all of us) should check their inventory and discuss with REV about the possibility of your valves being a part of the issue. The issue was predominantly with 5.7's and only 2 sets of 6.1's have been affected. I think that even with our valve stem issue, everyone will be surprised with the dyno results. :)
