that all depends on the driver IMO, i mean i've seen people with 400hp cars still on the stock tranny with no damage done, then i've seen guys with 300hp or stock hp with tranny issues.......

well the car was beat on before me, and that showed when the shit blew at the track. I had it rebuilt so I think It's ok now but my driving style is not aggressive at all. I'm just looking for a good matched turbo that's not stock but not too much either. in both price and power to make things break. tranny included.

have you considered the 50 trim? i know it's a "me too" turbo(everyone has one or is getting one) but it's good power for the money, gets you stage 3 numbers, in some instances better numbers.
i have a buddy of mine at my job who's got a 50 trim in his SRT4, he says it's got like stock driveability and no major issues with it......his spools like stock and makes good power, he hasn't had ANY transmission issues either......
i think the only issue with the 50 trim is that if you're pushing around 27-30psi for long periods of time(by that i mean everyday, beating on it and getting on it) eventually you'll have to rebuild the bottom end or upgrade but again that depends on the driver....my buddy's had his 50 trim for over 35k miles with no issues.

i thought about it, the appealing thing is the price. Although having been in many stage 3's, I can't help but love the quick spool and tq delivery midrange on those things. It would take a lot getting used to losing that to gain some top end. If hahn wasn't bad mouthed so much I'd grab a 16g and go from there or if s3 turbo/mani's were easy to come by more often.

ive always wanted just a little more. It sucks the stock turbo is so small that just to breach that 350 mark you need lots of mods and a big wheel time bomb so I really don't have another choice but to stay stock turbo and sacrifice the power, all i want is 350 realizing that anything more like 400 would start requiring more attention then I want to give to it. The only reason I said I'm sticking with the stock turbo is because s3 is so much money and I don't want to go into a power range that requires new clutch, tranny issues, motor issues, bs removal, oil pump failures the whole nine yards that a big turbo could potentially have with all the power, and not on a DD. The last thing I need to do is break something that has me stranded again :/

    yeah

that's why i was asking about the tranny's limits. I don't want to exceed the limits or walk that fine line and put myself in a situation I don't want to be in down the road. I realize you have to pay to play but, you'd think there would be a medium ground between a tiny stock td04 and a big 50 trim turbo for our cars without the price tag of the s3.

Just get the BB 50 trim u can get 350 hp on low boost maybe around 22 psi and dont worry about the tranny there built pretty damn strong hybridkid is using a stock tranny in his car and that thing is sick i was in the same boat about the hp range and with a S3 u need more mods to reach that mark and on the BB 50 trim i get full boost at 3200rpm the best part about a 50 trim NO PTB and u still get it with a S3 (if u have a wga) I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO A STOCK TURBO

I can tell most of you are. I'm holding off a bit as some of you know. Working on other aspects of the car.

Well I don't think the stock turbo can handle what I'm looking for anyway. My main concern now is don't break anything. lol. I've heard about the DBB's having some issues actually so I don't think I want to take a step towards that. The reason I'm looking to smaller turbos is because I want to keep the powerband, the peak numbers I don't care as much about that just seemed like a healthy number for a smaller turbo that's not too small like stock. Also 350 at 22psi sounds a bit low on a 50 trim no?
