Why is it English speaking channels have to broadcast th SAP signal so non English speaking individuals can enjoy TV, but Very often looking through the listings I'll see a classic movie I'd like to watch on one of the es spaniol channels and the don't even bother leaving the english sound track in, has anyone watched the Terminator in spanish? I probably wouldn't mind so much if I smoked pot.

Dude, you don't know how annoying it is to live in a country where many French Canadians (not all..but many... HATE english and some hate english people) and because we're are officially bilingual (French & English) we have to have everything printed in French too...if I saw French TV, I have so put out a hit on someone. We went to Montreal some time ago, and the hotel people, and a bunch of others treated us "CANADIAN's" like crap. They want to separate from Canada (Quebec) but want to be supported by all the provinces. I say, F*** em! We'll keep Quebec and we'll ship your asses to the Arctic. Speak all the fricken French you want there. Sorry, but the whole topic of Separatism rubs most English Non-French Speaking Canadians the wrong way.

Terribly sorry! I tend to use too many commas to break up my run on sentences. I do know the concept of sentences, and paragraphs ! I get confused on the computer with acronyms, grammar and the likes. It's possible the reason for my inadequacies in communication are from only being a High School graduate

I probably should take one of your classes to brush up on grammar and punctuation, exactly how long is a sentence suppose to be before the proper punctuation point is inserted? this might help everyone in future communications.

I'd like to also thank you now, I didn't realize I hated the Spanish language so much. Three languages in my puny brain is hard enough to deal with. Being that I'm a child of European immigrants , and spoke no English until I entered Kindergarten.

Thanks again for your comments, I hope I don't offend you or anyone else in the future...

I remember that BS those Frogs tried pulling. Western NY State was getting ready to mobilize in support of you normal Canadians. I used to work on the Canadian border, and the frenchies up there would refuse to admit that they were Canadian! So, they'd get sent to INS to wait in long lines for about 5-6 hours... subsequently ruining their trip. Dumb fuks.

I agree with the purpose of this topic... if you live in a country, speak that country's language, and don't expect special treatment if you don't or refuse to speak the native tongue.

Hell, in California, even our voting ballots can be had in like 15 different languages! WTF?!?! How the hell can you vote when do you don't know or understand what an English speaking candidate stands for?

    FUBAR!!!

In he LA voting district, I can't remember the language. There are only 15 or so people that speak it "some sort of Asian dialect" and I believe they said it cost several thousand dollars to print and distribute the necessary voting materials.
Oh God now it's gonna sound like I hate Asians!:shifty:

You have every right to ask any immigrant to learn the english language, specially if they are going tp live in the US. However you dont have the right to ridicule, talk disrespectfully or deny them services or entertainment in their native tongue. Americans in general always expect to be talked in english when they travel outside the US as tourists and, at times, get mad when things happen the other way. Feels bad dont it?

There are things I dont joke about and racist remarks in one of them.

What exactly did I say that was racist? my parents were immigrants, I was born here and spoke two languages fluently till I entered school where I was taught English. I haven't traveled out side the US other than south of the border and didn't have the opportunity to watch TV there. The people I know that have traveled out side the US have told me English language TV was virtually nonexistent .

My point was why can't the Hispanic stations leave the English dubbing in programs and dub their programs in English so English speaking folks can understand their programming by setting the SAP feature on our televisions, Like Hispanic folks have with most if not all TV offers them. Your accusation that I'm racist offends me. I tend to think people that attack someone racist are racist. Your insult on my intelligence was uncalled for. Calling
me racist for the way I write? What is that called.

Now had you called me lazy for my punctuation and grammar would be another issue, that was what was really going on. I was just being lazy and not using the writing skills I was taught in school. No racism what so ever.

Back to the topic of my being racist. My Family has lived through Wars "WWI and WWII " watching Friends and family being murdered and imprisoned by racists. My Father imprisoned by these people and had to look at guard houses literally built out of the Skulls and bones of innocent people killed by racists. Did you live through the 60s in the Midwest and south. I myself did and have seen racism. I've also lived next to a Hispanic family and went to school with teenagers that called other Hispanic people that weren't as well off as them "Beaners". I grew up going to a Church that was divided by the nationalities that attended, Oh and this comes to mind the country my parents were born and raised in no longer exists because of ethnic cleansing. I was taught to love everyone no matter their race, creed, or color, and help those less fortunate than me.

I hope you can see how burned up at you calling me racist, after all only a racist makes racist remarks!

Now if it makes you happy I will write my replies as long as you like and punctuate the shit out of them! but don't ever call me racist.

In ending I didn't ask to deny any services to any culture, only to be afforded the same service they expect from our country.

I came to the C because of the Politics and Religion forum. I was told the C was a fun place, and we could speak our minds. I'm beginning to feel discriminated against. I would like to apologize to all the C members here that have to put up with my rant., and you sir have become boring.

Have you heard of the term "melting pot"? It refers to the fact that ALL the population of the US is derived from immigrants in one way or the other so you little rant has really no meaning in what is discussed here. The only real natives of the US are the ones living in those reserves....the native americans.

Next time THINK a bit before posting. Really a simple concept. This is a great place but if you try to get "funny" about these matters you have to develop thicker skin, my friend.

If you felt offended, sorry, Im just honest:good:

That's what this forum is about. I guess things can get lost in translation on the internet lol. I understood exactly what you were saying. I myself was born in former Yugoslavia and my parents moved to Canada with me at the age of 1. That was 35 years ago. They also learned English as quick as they could and began working right off the bat as well. It's one reason why I never understood what goes on today, at least in Canada. Many do not choose to learn English but live in their own secluded communities for decades and decades. Having seen first hand what occurs in Health care.....since it's public.... Immigrants expect EVERYTHING on a silver platter here. Not all, but a hell of a lot of them. I can even be so bold to say that I can actually tell you which immigrants are expecting everything and which are hard workers who respect the laws and customs of Canada. I know this is bold - but it's the truth.
And yes, MANY French people in Quebec would like nothing more than to separate from Canada but still receive all the perks of being Canadian. What pisses me off about the whole thing is...is a double standard...we have to accomodate the French Canadians in every single way possible in terms of language but if you go to Quebec (which is still a province in Canada last time I checked) the same does not occur for English-speaking Canadians. It really is a sore spot in the heart's of many Canadians.

I would take your own advice as well. Calling someone a racist when all they asked was to repay a common courtesy while watching tv in a predominately english speaking country. I wonder what the common demominator is when for the past couple hundred years immigrants didn't have a problem seeing the benefit of "learning the language" of the majority of the land? It seems to make communication a lot easier if "everyone" speaks english....which is the language "our" constitution was written in.

Same issues down here Milan. I'm not sure why it has become one in the past couple decades. A girl I work with in the Navy has a mother who is from Mexico (the past 40 years) and doesn't speak english.

This forum here allows for any kind of political or religious debate as long as we keep sane about it. lol..The topics, by their very nature, are controversial and open to many opposing views. Us three, are ALL obviously from immigrant parents I think we can all appreciate biases for what they worth...whether based on race, religion, or any other socio-economic variable. Canada is actually referred to as a "Cultural Mosaic" because sooo many different cultures here remain true to their traditions, languages and religions yet are uniquely Canadian...they have a lot more support because of this context in avoiding assimilation with the general Anglo-Saxon Canadian population....like a melting pot society does. Anyways, I still think that any immigrants should learn how to speak the language (while maintaining their cultural traditions) and not thwart any and everything that is westernized....after all, you did choose to move to the West.

STAFF INTERVENTION... *blue and red lights come on*

OK folks. Ok. I was advised there was some crap going on here, and I found it (see bolded item above).

While I can be tactful and am rather adept at writing, I'll put my remark as simply as possible:

Chaman, calling him a racist from what he said is about as appropriate and intellectually sound as him calling you a traitor for what you said.

While this forum isn't busy, the last thing I will tolerate is someone pulling some BS race card and starting crap like this... especially when someone has an opinion that isn't hateful, but rather simply a political opinion.

Don't like it, stay the hell outta here.

Chaman consider this the only warning.

The melting pot is means to conform and blend (aka: melt) into the greater American set of customs, traditions, values and language (the single greatest bond amongst a people)... all of this equates to homogeny. To be or become like the others, to not 'stand out'. The melting pot concept is the very foundation of American culture and life and it means the opposite of what you propose, which is more of a European approach to immigration; actually Milan stated it correctly in referring to Canada's approach which is similar to your belief... more of a "mosaic" where people maintain their culture and language amongst other, dissimilar cultures and languages... this is heterogeneity.

But, this is the United States of America, the greatest nation on earth, the longest continual, uninterrupted government (no coups, etc.) in the world... the melting pot... it works, has always worked and will continue to work despite foreign agents and conceptual agitators attempting to chip away at its foundation.
