OK. There have been threads about the AFE being "all that", then there was another thread stating that the BWoody CAI was "all that", then there was a thread about swapping out the Mopar CAI Filter element only for a K&N filter element, and that was "all that", then there was another thread talking about a product from Hammer that supposedly was "all that" to the tune of a 40 rwtq increase, then there are threads about the type of CAI making 1-2 HP/TQ differences (meaning they're all equal). Ad nauseum folks. We need a single thread, with proven results from both the vendor and 3rd party results. Not that I'm in the market for a CAI, but I like reading about the products for our cars and all this information is TOO convoluted... actually, for those in the market for a CAI, I find this disorganization of information to be dissuading to modding. And for such as basic, building-block mod, we need to figure something out.
When I get my Airhammer, I am going to take it to a Dyno and do a before and after Install to know exactly what I am getting from it. I will post my results when I do. I will be going from the stock airbox to the hammer.
If I knew how to do a good dyno comparison, I would test before/after with my AirHammer to get some more information out now. It is almost identical to the ThorHammer physically, and it should yield roughly identical performance numbers. However, I am no expert on these things, so I will defer to those more qualified.
this has been done on the lx board with the mod face off. On the 6.1 the air hammer made 1-2 more hp then the afe and these were the only 2 at the time that made any gains...all this is from memory so dont quote me on numbers.
Spot-on John! First, LXF shouldn't be the only place with such info. Second, those findings, which I'll assume are accurate (John knows his shit), just cloud the waters even more... especially when there's posts about 40 rwtq gains! Someone save us from dis/mis-information!
I know you can't dyno a car and say "this is how much power you will get" since they are all different, but I am gonna do a pull with my current setup (basically stock running the 93 Perf Tune with the predator) and then switch out the stock airbox for the Hammer and run the 93 Perf CAI tune and run it again... I will post up the results and hopefully that will give people a reasonable idea as to what to expect if they choose to go w/ a hammer
Well, Jason, as much as you may poo-poo the LXF findings, I was actually there for the mod-face off and that's why I bought an Airhammer. In fact mine was the first Charger SRT with one. Of course, I'm not a guy, so having seen that NONE of the CAIs do THAT much for performance it was more about aesthetics for me and for that the Hammer wins hands down. Its just a bonus that in the face off it consistently performed better (however slight) than the other CAIs.
We agree!!. HAMMER AUTOMOTIVE INC. confronts these issues on a daily basis. Independent (credible) testing is a make or break point in the decision for purchasing many products and the air intake tends to be an item most consumers take as a first step. Further if you look closely, as we do, at manufacturers claims you see just how easy it is to manipulate the numbers and/or provide misleading, unrepeatable claims. Another reason we support this idea is that we do test virtually all other competitirs products ourselves and are shocked at how, in real world testing , how far off they are from there H.P and Torque claims. Another issue that is widely overlooked is HOW TO READ these numbers, it's to easy to focus on a particular set point, example; average horsepower, rather than studying the entire curve. With most of these vehicles Torque, especially in the lower RPM range is far more relevant to the daily driver than peak or avg H.P. How many of you actually drive above 120-140 MPH which is where some people seem to judge performance of these things. At the end of a quarter mile none of these vehicles are out of third gear... One of the primary reasons Scott started HAMMER was to provide product that did what it claimed to do and to openly document and quantify in as many ways possible that what we claim is in fact the truth. The other reason we like this idea is we live or die by the numbers in terms of sales and knowing we make the best only means that testing of this nature will only benefit us, I cant say the competition will be very happy about this idea though.
Tam, I'm not poo-pooing anything... its just that WE (SRT/C) should have a place to find this info on our site so that perspective buyers are well-advised with real world numbers, and those of us that are curious can find stuff easily. Ryan told me you were a little light in the loafers... now I believe him. Well, I, for one, am glad to have you folks on here then! So, what's the deal with that 40 rwtq thing that was argued about in another thread that I refuse to even look through ('cause it turned into a bytch session)?!?!
How about just pointing to it from here? One of the big advantages to our wonderfully open forum. info there ----> There were measurable gains with both the AFE and Hammer over stock. The Hammer made 1 or 2 hp more than the AFE. Unfortunately they didn't include the Mopar in the shoot out. Bwoody is new I think. Just for the jeeps? I think maybe only one CAI actually showed a decrease in hp and the others didn't do anything other than sound. HP from CAI and exhaust alone is going to be fairly small but will have a larger effect with other mods like H/C, FI, etc. The other thing not characterized in that shoot out was susceptibility to heat soak. It seems that the metal tube CAI's will heat up (at a red light for example) a lot faster than the non-metal ones. Moving the temp sensor can alleviate that but colder air entering the manifold is obviously better.
I think this was looked into and determined that with the amount of air thats passing through it, that it would not get heated to the point of being all that much of a problem...colder is better...but its not like this airs gonna be burning hot either... unless you sat at a stoplight for like 45 min's...then there might be an issue haha
how is this possible!!!! probably one of the more popular choices i see made by folks!!! i have one, and i love it. not saying it made my car into some tire smoking monster, but like tam said, aesthetics played a big part, and i like it the best!!! makes my engine look purdy!!!!!
I am just a lowly Director of Operations, Scott the great wizard all things hemispherically designed is analyzing the data as has a whopper of a comeback hehe!, stay tuned!!
ryan also has said that we have engaged in inappropriate relations...gonna believe that too? hahahahahaha :rofl2:
