How many years before the new higher mileage CAFE standards are in place?

I'd give this run 5 more years.

"Young people don't associate the HEMI name with performance in the same way that their parents may have"

I see this as "Your missing the boat Mopar, AGAIN!!!" It will only be associated in the same if you embrace the fact that there are so many of us out here that want to up the anty with our HEMI's. Give us what we desire, and the HEMI will make its name a common household conversation. Yes, we want fuel econmy and low emmissions, for the daily commute to and from work! But do not take our playtime lightly, for we will consume huge amounts of petrol, inhale pounds and pounds of nitrous, and leave limitless amounts of rubber on the asphalt!

Notice that they mentioned "Forced Induction".
They need to add that to the Hemi too!

If true that's a serious kick in the nuts as the aftermarket won't be so inclined to keep making new parts for an engine that's going away after a relatively small model run.
Fuck the legislation that dreamed up the CAFE bump, and the eco Nazi's that have in the past and now continue to generate all the BS propoganda. Most of all, fuck you Al Gore.

Turn the key and kill a tree, stomp the floor and kill some more!!!

Fascist train of thought. If they were soo concerned about this they would live in solar powered homes and refuse to fly their lead fueled private jets to meetings less than an hour away.

Is seems from this article the automakers don't care if there are good clean engines in their current lineup, it's all about putting out something new with a "green" soundbite associated with it.
It's 1973 all over again, get your big V8's while you can. At least we won't be going back to the days when the stock vette had 180 hp..

The problem is the current Chrysler wants to dump a product out there for the masses, and then not embrace the aftermarket who wants to use that platform.

How can we associate the modern Hemi with performance like the old Hemi's, when I can buy dozens of parts for a 40 year old motor, but have to scrape and claw together anything I can find just to get something for a 3 year old motor?

Compare the number of camshafts available for an LSx based motor to a Hemi?

    Anyone else notice the problem?

Not to mention almost all the other countries on this planet are puking out pollution from cars and factories with little or no regulation. Getting China cut their polution levels by 1% would probably lower OUR polution as much as if we took every car in America off the street.

So, let's look at this in a way that we can transform the HEMI into a power eating green fuel burning 1/4 mile monster. Let's run off of methane, I am sure we all have plenty of that to spare! If we don't, we could pipe it in from DC cause they are full of it.

As someone new to the DCX party I was surprised by the lack of aftermarket, especially with all the buzz about the predator just as I bought my car. Everyone with an LT1 or LSx car has been running around doing custom tuning on their laptop for YEARS.

Just wait until someone bolts that supercharged vette engine into an LX plateform and makes us all look like a joke.

To futher show how F'd up things are. Here in Calif my brother tried to get some ethanol 85. It's not available or legal in california, it would have to come from Reno, NV and the distributor wouldn't deliver it because they weren't sure if it was even legal for Agriculture (off road) use and didn't want to get fined.

Regardless of the new higher CAFE standards which I don't think kick-in in full until 2020, performance cars won't die off completely. Unfortunately what has to happen is production volumes will drop (since CAFE is avg. fleet economy) for performance cars, meaning the price will increase probably exponentially. So in the future there will be less high po cars on the road, and they won't be cheap.

Sorry but I'd rather push my current vehicles than drive an ecar.:supergay:

So in 2020 u buy the light weight "green" car andthen buy a 440 from PPP since they will still be in biz and u swap. All these regulations r crap. They already made me go back to full stock exhust

Article in today's Star blasts the headline "Is this the end of Drag Racing in Canada"?...article about the full ban of leaded race fuel for anyone in Canada. Doesn't effect me, but it sure does those who run in the NHRA, IHRA and the like. Seems only Alcohol Class will be allowed....yet, absolutely no mention of airplanes or private jets who will recieved a "permanent exemption"!!!! How much crap is this!??!

Ehh. I run 108 octane unleaded. That's plenty for most applications until you make the switch to alchohol anyway. I don't think it'll make a huge difference.
