Me and my friend are about to start building a Class 1 Buggy to do off road racing like the Baja 1000 and other races. It seems like most people in this class use the LS1 corvette engine being a mopar guy I don't really want to use this engine. Is there any reason why someone couldn't or more likely shouldn't use a mopar engine? I was thinking something along the lines of the 426 Hemi. If anyone could help out that would be great and also were looking for any type of sponsorship that company's want to do.
just check and ask them all you might also be able to find other parts becides the engine as well :grin:
Yeah one of our vendors should be able to hook you up...just look around and see whos got what... i dont see any reason why an LS1 engine would work and any other wouldn't?
You could also check with Mopar Supercenter, as we have many engine options available. We could work you up some quotes on engines such as Stanton Racing engines who only builds Mopar motors. Motors such as sealed racing engines for Late Model, Midget, and many other classes. He also builds the Mopar Performance 392 crate engine and several others coming down the pipeline. Give Jeff a call, and we would be happy to see what we could do for this application.
If anyone is at all interested in sponsoring parts, labor, discounts, or money we will put your company's name on the car and promote your company at races and events that we attend also you will be mentioned in any publication that we are published in. With doing a mopar engine this will get notice its something that is not done by people who race class 1.
Well, we did some checking on an engine for this. According to our supplier, there are several out there running the Mopar 410 Sprint car engine, 800 ponies. We have a quote worked up for one of these, hope your sitting down, $46,000. Now, if you want to go with something a bit less expensive, we have a couple other options. 1st recommendation would be the 392 crate engine that uses a carb. Now this comes with one hellish hi-rise intake, so depending on the body specifications you might have to switch over to the 392 FI version. The FI versions we have in stock, ready to go, with computer system already programmed for a small purchase amount of $15700.00 dollars.
We're custom fabricating the chaise so size is not an issue. How many ponies can we get out of the 392? With out some serious sponsorship we cant handle the $46k price tag. haha
The 392 is listed at 525 HP! I understand there is a hood height restriction, but I could be wrong. We were told that the carb version has a very tall manifold, add the carb and it sits higher than the FI version.
I could be wrong but its a totaly unlimited class. Is gonna be a rear mounted engine so as long as it doesn't go above the roof of the car we will be good.
