I know this item has been beat to death :chair: but this weekend I drove a blown 426 Jeep. It had headers and Magnaflow 3" catback exhaust. Before it goes on the dyno some miles had to be put on. I was so suprize: by how quiet the thing ran on the street and when I got her up on the freeway. What struck me the most was the the difference between the set up I had on my 2006 with Kooks/Corsa vs this Kooks/Magnaflow. There was absolutely no drone, no echo in the cab at all, and even the engine noise was much less. The Magnaflow catback uses the same Xpipe front muffler many of us experimented with back in 06 which made the Jeep even quieter than stock. So alot of us got rid of it and Magnaflow never really became popular as a replacement. I have to say that this will be the catback I will switch to as I start to plan out my 426.

Well after driving the 426 (thats another story) with the headers and Magnaflow I was shocked how quiet the thing ran. It made me realize that the Mopar/Corsa is a bit to aggressive....for my taste at this point in my life. PS; Stretch I keep screwing up my moderator abilities........I posted my response in yours, so I just removed it.......sorry!
Your review of the Magnaflow seems to match my experience with Kooks and Borla Touring. Although louder than stock this combo is quiet when cruising, has no drone and is mean only at WOT. I know you would like it too
Agreed The Magnaflow and Borla "T" seem to be of similar design......no X pipe, large front muffler and resonators out back. The Magnaflow add packing in the tip as well. Next time I see Hemi@last I need a ride in his Jeep.......since he has the Borla"T".
Steve i was parked next to dave (hemi@last) and he started up his jeep and i didnt even no it was running it was so quit. I called borla and they told me the Tourning is 200 BUXS more than the S because the muffler is bigger.
Ok, I know when I pick up the rig in the next few days with the Kooks and 426 it is going to be TOO loud. I was very borderline with the 6.1 and Corsa, no headers. Steve / Claude....which will be the quietest combo: * Kooks & Borla "T" * Kooks & Magnaflow Bill
Bill, My guess is they would probably be close soundwise and you should be happy with either one, although I dont know how unrestrictive the Magnaflow really is. For me, having run low 12's, I know the Borla T is freeflow. Kooks and Borla T is probably close to Corsa on stock manifolds. A notch louder than stock for sure but totally freeflow with no Drone at any speed, quiet when cruising, aggressive and loud but not overwhelming at WOT. Definitly quieter than Borla S on stock manifolds. Also since putting the BWoody CAI the intake sound from the front is also quieter than with the previous Airaid CAI, probably because it sits lower and less noise makes it to the cab. I truly enjoy this sleeper combo and since it could still be a bit louder without being obtrusive, I'm thinking of getting mid-pipes with no cats. BTW Borla T does not come shiny like those pics. From my experience here is what I tried or heard on the GC : Stock man/ stock exhaust : Quiet, No drone, restrictive Stock man/ stock exhaust-no reso : Rich sound, Drone, less restrictive Stock man/ stock exhaust-no front muffler: Crappy sound at WOT, No drone Stock man/ Borla T : Quiet, No drone, no restriction Stock man/ Magnaflow : Quiet, No drone, restriction=? Stock man/ Corsa : Medium, loud at WOT, no drone, no restriction Stock man/ Zoomers : Loud, lots of Drone, no restriction Stock man/ Borla S : Loud, a bit of Drone, no restriction Kooks / Borla T : Medium, loud at WOT, no Drone, freeflow Kooks / Borla S : Very loud all the time, rich sound, freeflow Kooks / Borla T-no reso : Very loud all the time, rich sound, freeflow __________________
I have modified the stock exhaust 3 different ways and they all sounded like crap, so I dont recommend you waste your time and money. Kooks/Corsa is very aggressive and sounds killer:thumb2: but it is loud and you will get noticed... [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9W-yWmZp5EQ[/media] On my 2008 I have the stock exhaust with the Mopar/Corsa and was considering the Borla "T" but really dont like the tips, but those can be changed out. Last weekend I volunteered :secret: to put some miles on a GSM blown 426 before it goes on the dyno. I was able to put 40 easy miles on it, both on the street and freeway cruising at 55.....60...65...and three pulls up to 80. The 80mph/3000rpm test is the one that did it for me.......absolutely no drone or cabin engine resonance. This particular vehicle is equipped with Kooks/hi flow cats/ and 3" Magnaflow catback. Bill......I was shocked :surprise:......I mean floored how quiet it really was inside the cab. This Jeep is actually quieter than my Jeep with stock exhaust and Corsa combination!! Of course I rolled down the window and you could definetly hear it......and any Mustang or Corvette driver would know "she aint stock"! The engine sound goes out back not in the cab! I do know this was the 2nd exhaust out of the gate in late 2006. It is full 3" system and the front muffler is an actual X pipe inside the can. The resonators are full free flow with the center core at an angle, so this must help make them so quiet. This is the set up I have decided on since driving this 426/Kooks set up. When I got my cat back system, one of the reasons I did not gu with Corsas was because they were the only ones running 2.75" pipes while Magnaflows and the others were all 3". Yep.... the magnaflows do drone between 2000-3000 rpm but itis not too bad, but I do not have long tube headers so I don't know the effect on sound. The guys at "Car Sound" (Magnaflow mfg) don't call it a drone. They say like a cow.....more like "mooooo"....lol. The main rereason I chose Magnaflow was because I got them at cost.....$580 complete. Also the magnaflow system for the 6.1 does not use an internal "X" in the muffler, but the 5.7 system does. Magnaflow told me they saw no performance increase in using the "X" pipe in the muffler or the piping system.
They do have some drone in the LX ....but what doesnt in the LX??? The Jeep is a different animal. The reason Corsa is 2.75 is because the stock cat pipes are 2.75......that means it all matches as a complete system after the factory headers.
