Jon aka DragginWagon stopped by yesterday and I was able to take a lot of pictures of the SRT-8 Calipers. If I have all the tools necessary and know exactly how to do this I will be performing a caliper swap/brake pads for him from red to black. I need to know a step by step on how to remove the calipers as well as the brake pads. Any tricks... any specific tools and so fourth. From me looking at it... it looks simple I just want to make sure I know what I'm doing and everything goes well. Any help is appreciated. Here are the pictures for referencing. Front/Rear
Two bolts on the backside of each caliper. 18mm I believe. Remove the bolt, caliper drops away. Have to remove the brake line then. Removing the pads is easy. Drive the two retaining pins (visible in your photos - the ones that look silver, not the ones painted red) from each caliper using a punch and hammer, or even a smaller torx bit screwdriver. Pins cmoe out, retainer clip falls out, brake pads slide out. 5 minute job once yuo've done it a couple times.

Thank you all for the help! Ted those instructions step by step are awesome! Really gives precise details. According to the directions new washers will need to be bought if the line is removed from the calipers. Is there a part number for these? Looks like I'll have to buy a pin punch. Could this be bought at any auto parts store? All other tools I have.
Yea, there is a part number for the washers, give us a call tomorrow and we will get it for you. As for the punch, any small drift punch will work that you should be able to pick up at a local parts store.
As far as a pin punch,You can use the back end of a screw driver to start the pin moving so you dont mark up the caliper,Then use the other end"Phillips" to finish pushing it through.As far as the washers go it is a copper washer that goes on each side of the brake hose,This can be found in the Help section at most auto parts store.Or just bring one with you and show it to someone that works thre..
jon, i take it you found a donor car for the black calipers???? i was told by my tech there might, i repeat, might be an issue with the backs in that the bracket that holds the caliper might need to be swapped from car to car as well. he was not positive, but thought the 18mm bolts holding the rears on the jeep were a touch shorter, thus requireing the swapping of the caliper bracket as well. he said it was no biggie, but something that might pop up. anyway, tell me how it goes, i would still love to do this myself!!!! good luck bro!!!
Hey, care to trade your red calipers with my Silver ones from my 08 SRT8? I hate the silver ones on my black car. The 2008 brochures show a Black SRT8 with red calipers and I loved it! LMK

I would recommend that along with the washers that you also pick up a couple of banjo bolts from your local parts department just in-case you brake one when you re-install them. And make sure you get the proper torque specs for the banjo bolts and the brake caliper bolts. Have fun!
