Coming home from getting the windows tinted, I was at a light (Olympic Pkwy, Chula Vista. bearing East), next to me a crotch rocket. I took off at my usual 'quick' pace (not racing, mind you) and the motorcycle passed me about 50 yards along the way. I'm cruising along, watching the road ahead... I see the motorcycle, about 200 yards ahead, give or take, he was likely doing 60+ mph... me, somewhere below that...

Still looking ahead, jamming to The Cult (Lil Devil), the road bends a bit and I lost sight of the cycle for a second or two, when I see a friggin street cleaner appear in front of the cycle. The street cleaner made a u-turn or something off of the under construction 125 highway onramp...

I see this guy on the cycle hit his brakes and his bike starts to fishtail... he left a skid mark that was RIDICULOUSLY LONG... he's still heading towards the street cleaner (who must have been oblivious), then it happened. The guy must have hit his front brakes hard and LOST it. He went flying, then tumbling, then sliding to the left, and the bike kept going straight, then tumbled.

I nearly shat myself! I sped-up and pulled over to help the guy. A pedestrian ran across the street and got to him before me.

The guy was knocked out for a good 15 seconds after I got to him. Not noticeable cuts, but his helmet's shield was busted off and his helmet cracked. Called 911.

He started waking up and tried to move (we gently held him down) and told him to not move. He kept saying he couldn't breath, but I told him if you're talking, you can breath, so relax, and breath slow... don't move.

Ambulance came and took him and we gave a report of what we saw.

Long story, I know, but what a wake up call that was. I don't drive wrecklessly, but even if you're within safe limits (as I believe the guy on the bike to have been), sht happens fast and that same sht can hit the fan and leave you in a world of hurt.

Be careful on the roads folks.

Hopefully the guy on the motorcycle didn't end up with serious injuries... My brother was in a motorcycle accident years ago. A car pulled out in front of him, he was on the main highway going maybe 35mph when the car pulled out from a residential street. The car hit the front of the bike. It spun him around and he skidded off the shoulder into gravel. He ended up with pretty bad road rash and his knee was messed up for quite awhile afterwards. He was lucky! Had the car pulled out a second later it would have been a lot worse!

I lost one of my best friends to a motor cycle. The to deadly for the roads IMO. I promised my self never EVER would I own one and I will keep that promise. I glad the guy was ok. I hope that slapped some sense in to him( I know he was driving fine) "hey if this happened once it will happen again."

That would have gotten my heart beating for sure. Way to help a stranger out and reminding us how things can happen when you might think you're invincible.

I want a bike really bad. I am a very good rider with quite a bit of experience, but everybody else on the road freaks me out. Too many idiots that don't pay attention.

Remember we live very close to a country that doesn't believe in having a DOT much less enforcing laws for safety purposes. It's the reason my Tijuana, MX raised wife drives a Ford Excursion. If you see a brown/tan Excursion with a SD Chargers sticker in the rear window be afraid, be very afraid and drive in the other direction as if MOMO was chasing you down for a midafternoon nooner!

as a rider of over 20 years, i can unfortunately say i have been involved in accidents on my bikes very simalr in nature to what you describe jason. the god thing is i have been lucky. have had multiple broken bones, dislocations, laceration, and bruises along the way. bottom line, it is a risk no matter how skilled and safe you are. probably why it is a hobby i do not do as much anymore now that i have a family.......
